One of Europe's biggest payments companies is opening its front door on Thursday. That's the week: Mollie hosts its Dev Summer Session at its own Amsterdam HQ on 23 July, free, and it's the clearest reason to keep an evening open. This is the company's annual developer summer session, run out of its Amsterdam canal-house HQ, with technical talks from Mollie's own engineering side. Two things make it the pick of the week. First, the room: a payments company's dev evening pulls the people who work on the unglamorous, high-stakes end of software — money movement, reliability, the things that cannot go down. That's a different crowd from the AI-curious, and a more useful one if you build anything transactional.

Second, the building. Getting inside a company's actual office beats a hired conference room every time; you learn more from how a team works than from their slides. It's free, it's featured on our listings, and it's on a Thursday evening in a city that empties out by August. If you only do one thing this week, do this.

Wednesday 22 July, 19:30 — AI Builders Amsterdam — July Edition at StartDock Coworking, Prins Hendrikkade, free. AI Builders is a community of engineers, founders and makers who show each other what they're actually building — the emphasis is on shipped work rather than think-pieces about where the field is going. This edition gathers around 100 people at StartDock. In July, a hundred people is a real turnout; it says the community has a habit, not just a mailing list.

Who should go where

Builders — you have the best week. AI Builders on Wednesday if you're deep in models and agents; Mollie on Thursday if you care about payments, reliability or how a real fintech engineering org is put together. Doing both is easy: they're a day apart and both free.

Founders — Friday's Nursery session is the unsexy pick that pays off. Everyone wants the investor evening; almost nobody does the positioning work that makes the investor evening go well. Do the Friday, then use Wednesday and Thursday to test the new one-liner on strangers.

Investors — quiet week, and we won't dress it up. There's no pitch night or demo day on our Amsterdam board. If you're in town, Mollie's session is where the strong technical people are, which is its own kind of dealflow — just don't arrive expecting a deck.

Sales & marketing — Friday is genuinely yours: storytelling and brand craft with founders who need exactly that. The other two are engineering rooms, so go for the conversation, not the pipeline.

Wednesday's AI Builders night is at StartDock on Prins Hendrikkade — a straightforward walk from Centraal, which makes it one of the easier evening venues in the city to reach if you're coming in by train rather than bike. It's a coworking space, so expect a working room rather than an event space: good for talking, less good for hiding at the back. Practical note for a 19:30 start — the surrounding blocks are tourist-dense and food gets expensive fast, so eat before you cross the water rather than after.

Worth knowing

• The Nursery session is listed at 12:00 on Friday, though the description reads like a morning session. We're going with the listing time, but check the event page before you plan your day around it — it's the one detail this week we'd verify twice.
• Every event on this week's Amsterdam board is free. That's not normal; it's July. The paid conference season resumes when everyone comes back.
• Nothing is flagged as selling out, but the Mollie session is in a company office rather than a venue — office capacity is real capacity. Register early rather than on the day.
