Tech events in Amsterdam this week: build all weekend, decide all Wednesday (19–25 June)

Amsterdam Tech Week doesn't end with a panel — it ends with a 45-hour sprint. The tech events in Amsterdam this week open with the biggest builder tournament on the continent and close with a Wednesday so stacked you'll have to choose which conference gets your day. Between those two poles, Dutch Blockchain Week takes over the city. If last week was about meeting people, this week is about building things and then deciding where you belong.

The Big One: MEGATHON

⭐ Featured. MEGATHON — Europe's Biggest AI Builder Tournament — Fri 19 June, kicks off in the evening at The HUBB, runs through Sunday 21, free.

This is the headline event closing out Amsterdam Tech Week: a 45-hour AI builder tournament bringing together 500+ vetted founders, engineers and designers to ship real startup work — not weekend toys. The framing matters. MEGATHON isn't a "come learn about AI" event; it's a "come build something that ships" event, which is a different and rarer thing. It's free, it's vetted (so the room is genuinely strong), and it runs from Friday evening straight through the weekend. From our own tracking: the organiser's Discord went live more than a week ago and team-forming has clearly already started — so if you're going in solo, get into that community channel before Friday rather than showing up cold. For builders, this is the single best use of your weekend in the city this month.

The week ahead, by theme

The blockchain takeover. Dutch Blockchain Week (22–28 June) lands on the city this week, and two listings anchor it. It opens Mon 22 June with the Litecoin Summit 2026 — Amsterdam at the TOBACCO Theater (€84, two days) — Litecoin's first European edition, payments and scaling and Web3 in one of the city's most atmospheric rooms. The week's centrepiece, ⭐ featured, is the Dutch Blockchain Week 2026 — DBW Summit on Wed 24 June at the Johan Cruijff ArenA (€599, two days): 5,000+ attendees, 40+ side events around the city, with Bitvavo, bunq, Visa and Kraken in the building. The builders' undercard. Before the weekend tournament, DevOpsDays Amsterdam 2026 runs Fri 19 June at Pakhuis de Zwijger (€175) — a single packed day of curated talks and Ignite sessions for the platform-and-pipeline crowd. And for the data engineers, ⭐ featured DuckCon #7 Amsterdam lands Wed 24 June at the Royal Tropical Institute (KIT), free — the DuckDB community conference. Our registration confirmed it as a Wednesday afternoon-into-evening session (the ticket reads 15:00–20:00), so treat it as a late-day affair, not a morning one.

The headline conference, on its own track. ⭐ Featured European Women in Technology 2026 marks its 10th anniversary on Wed 24 June at the RAI (€295) — Europe's largest tech event for women, 4,000+ attendees, 100 exhibitors, keynotes and tactical panels. It shares the most crowded Wednesday of the month with the DBW Summit and DuckCon, which is the planning problem of the week.

The quieter, useful middle. Tuesday 23 June offers two calmer options. SustainaLab Books with Prof. Gadi Rothenberg at Matrix ONE (free, afternoon) digs into what it takes to turn sustainable science into a company — useful for any researcher eyeing a spin-out. That evening, the AI & Tech Networking Event by Ascent Valley at Side Quest Bar (€18) is the week's low-key mixer. And there's the Digital Twin Tech Summit 2026 at Park Plaza Victoria (€495, Wed–Thu) if industrial digital twins are your specialism.

Who should go where

Builders — MEGATHON, no contest. Forty-five hours, free, vetted room, the best builder weekend the city throws all season. If hackathons aren't your thing, DevOpsDays on Friday or DuckCon on Wednesday are the technical picks — DuckCon free, and small enough to actually corner a maintainer.

Founders — the weekend is for shipping (MEGATHON); the week is for positioning. If you're in Web3, the DBW Summit at the ArenA is your dealflow and your customers in one stadium. If you're not, European Women in Technology at the RAI is the broader, deeper room on Wednesday. You can't do both — pick by where your buyers actually sit.

Investors — Wednesday is your problem and your opportunity. DBW Summit concentrates crypto and fintech capital; European Women in Technology concentrates a different, underbacked dealflow most funds underweight. Decide your thesis before you book the day, because the two barely overlap.

Sales & marketing — the buyer-dense rooms are the paid Wednesday conferences (DBW Summit, European Women in Technology) and Litecoin Summit on Monday for the Web3-native crowd. Skip the open mixers this week unless Tuesday's Ascent Valley evening fits your patch — the conference floors are where the budget is.

Last week, briefly

Amsterdam Tech Week opened strong: Finder ran its third co-founder matching edition at AMS Institute (our ticket confirmed the afternoon 15:00–19:00 slot, as we flagged), AfricArena brought cross-continental dealflow to Google Amsterdam, and Thursday stacked three free pitch events — Developed at TNW City, Zeta Alpha's multi-agent session at LAB42, and the Innovators Arena finale. What that means for this week: the people Tech Week energised are now either heads-down at MEGATHON or shopping their sector's Wednesday conference. Close the follow-ups from last week's pitch nights before the blockchain crowd takes over the city's attention.

Across the network: Berlin's quiet counterpoint

If Amsterdam's week is a crescendo, Berlin's is a deliberate hush — and worth a mention for anyone who works across both cities. Berlin's Silicon Allee Deep Tech Night (Tue 23 June, free, inside the Fraunhofer HHI Venture Lab) is the kind of small, curated deep tech room Amsterdam's packed Wednesday makes hard to find this week. Different speed, same mission — founders pitching to investors who came to listen. If your week takes you east, it's the cleanest evening on Berlin's calendar.

Worth knowing

• MEGATHON's Discord is already live and team-forming has started. Our registration confirmed the link is open ahead of the event — if you're competing solo, joining the community channel before Friday is the difference between landing on a strong team and scrambling for one on the night.
• Wednesday 24 June is the bottleneck of the month. Three featured events — DBW Summit (ArenA), European Women in Technology (RAI) and DuckCon (KIT) — all run that day, in three different parts of the city. There's no doing two of them properly. Choose before Wednesday morning.
• DuckCon's timing is afternoon-into-evening. Our ticket reads 15:00–20:00 CEST at the Royal Tropical Institute — so it slots in after a daytime conference if you're trying to stack, unlike the all-day RAI and ArenA events.
• A note on Litecoin and DBW: they're the two ends of Dutch Blockchain Week (22–28 June) we've listed, but the week carries 40+ side events around the city. If Web3 is your focus, check the listings page midweek — more may surface.
