If you want the low-key end: the Amsterdam Tech Mixer and Social (Fri 24 Jul, Bierfabriek on Nes, €3) opens the weekend. It's the long-running Friday-evening fixture for people in tech, AI, data and IT — no panels, no pitches, just the brewpub in the city centre and whoever turns up. Treat it as an evening drop-in rather than a fixed start time and you'll have it right; it's the kind of unstructured room where a good chat is down to who you bump into, which is exactly the appeal after a week of formatted pitch nights.

Hidden gem: networking with a waterfront

The one worth a second look is Tech Networking Event by Startup Valley in Amsterdam (Thu 30 Jul, I Dock, free). Startup Valley's recurring night runs to a clear structure — registration and casual networking, then the more organised part — and it's set on the IJdok waterfront, which beats a windowless meeting room by a distance on a summer evening. It closes the working week, it's free, and it draws a founder-and-investor mix without the pressure of a pitch stage. If you found Tuesday too busy, this is the calmer way to make the same kind of connection.

We flag it because the location does quiet work most listings ignore: a waterfront setting lowers everyone's guard, conversations run longer, and the walk-and-talk along the IJdok is where the useful bits of a networking night usually happen. For a free Thursday, it's a lot of value in an easy setting.

Across the network: Dublin's AI takeover

If your week takes you west, Dublin is worth a glance this week — its calendar has turned into an accidental AI festival, headlined by AI Tinkerers Dublin's screened, demos-first Demo Night with builders from Microsoft, Mastercard and Toast. It's a sharper, more technical counterpart to Amsterdam's founder nights, and a good reminder that the anopenroom cities often rhyme.
