For the week of 31 July to 6 August, Amsterdam's tech calendar is empty — not thin, not quiet-but-worth-a-look, genuinely empty. The last week of July cleared the terraces, the offices dropped to half-staff, and the organisers who keep this scene running have, sensibly, taken August off. The state of the scene: deep-summer Amsterdam

The good news outweighs the housekeeping. TAG Amsterdam — one of the more consistent community organisers — emailed its list on 24 July with a subject line that says it all: "It's a new season." Their programming is resuming after the summer pause, which is exactly the kind of signal that tells you the low tide is about to turn. When TAG starts up again, the rest of the calendar usually follows within a week or two.

The Amsterdam Tech Mixer and Social held its Friday slot at Bierfabriek on the 24th; the Tuesday of the 28th ran two founder nights head-to-head — AI Tech & Startup Night at Hendrix from Nomad Global Hub, and a VC Networking & Tech Pitch evening at Café CHA CHA on Rokin; and Startup Valley closed the month with its waterfront networking night at I Dock on Thursday the 30th. A respectable send-off for July — then the shutters came down.
Coming up: what August brings back
Two things are worth pencilling in now, both just past this week's window. The Friday Tech Mixer — the low-key, no-pitches brewpub fixture — looks set to resume its weekly slot from around 7 August, which would make it the first regular room back on the board. And a bit further out, a VC Networking evening is shaping up for around 18 August, for anyone who wants investors in the room before the September rush.
