Founders Meetup Edinburgh x Venture Café is the week's flagship and, frankly, one of the founder events of the month. Two of the city's most reliable communities pool their crowds for one evening: a candid founder interview up front, then open networking across the broadest single room the Scottish ecosystem fields all year — founders, operators, students, the odd angel not advertising the fact. We can vouch for the date because our own registration came through on 7 June; it's confirmed, it's free, and the Futures Institute is the building this scene already orbits. Who should go where

This week reads better by who you are than by what day it is — there's really only one day that matters.

Founders — Thursday's Founders Meetup x Venture Café, no hesitation. It's the densest founder room of the month and it costs nothing. Start the week gently at Founders Hub Friday co-working at the Bayes Centre (Fri 19, 08:30, free) — the ScotlandIS-backed weekly drop-in where you work alongside other people building scalable things, pre-seed to scaling. Investors — a genuinely quiet week, so spend it well. The Founders Meetup x Venture Café on Thursday is the only room where early Scottish dealflow congregates in volume this week; the candid interview format also tells you more about a founder than a polished pitch ever does. Everything else can wait.

Builders — your week is Tuesday and Thursday. GameDevEd's social (Tue 23, 19:00, OX184 Bar, free) is the friendly games-industry drinks — students, indie devs and triple-A folk in one bar, no slides. Then Thursday, if founder networking isn't your thing, ProductTank Edinburgh's "How Do I AI?" (Thu 25, 19:00, free) puts practitioners on stage to answer the only product question anyone's asking right now: how do you actually use this stuff day to day.

Hidden gem: a Racket meetup hiding in plain sight

UK Racket Meet-up — Edinburgh (Tue 23, 19:30, free) is the one we'd quietly nudge the right person toward. Racket is the programmable programming language from the Scheme/Lisp family — the sort of thing that sounds academic until you meet the people who build languages for a living and realise they're the most interesting room in town. Expect lightning talks and language-design chat. It won't trend, it's tiny, and that's exactly why it's worth your evening if you're the kind of engineer who reads compiler papers for fun. One practical note: the venue is confirmed on registration, so sign up before Tuesday rather than turning up hopeful.

Last week, briefly

The Finance Festival did what it promised. Ethical Finance Global closed the run at the Sheraton on Thursday — a full day on the future of finance pinned to the 250th anniversary of the Wealth of Nations, and the densest concentration of capital and regulators the city hosts before autumn. Earlier in the week EdinburghJS pushed JavaScript somewhere it had no business going with an emulator-in-JS talk at TravelPerk's Nova House. What it means for this week: the institutional crowd has had its fill, and the calendar hands the floor back to founders and builders — which is exactly who Thursday the 25th is for.
