Edinburgh tech events this week: UX Scotland anchors a four-deep Thursday (5–11 June)

Edinburgh does this thing where the calendar idles for a fortnight and then drops everything at once. This is one of those weeks: ten tech events in Edinburgh across five days, seven of them free, with the country's biggest design conference in the middle and a Thursday night that forces actual choices. If you only skim one weekly roundup of networking events in Edinburgh, make it this one — the scheduling matters.

The Big One: UX Scotland 2026

Wed 10 June, 09:00 — John McIntyre Conference Centre, Pollock Halls — paid (Software Acumen)

UX Scotland is Scotland's flagship UX and design conference: two full days of talks and workshops at Pollock Halls, and the single most important Edinburgh tech event of the fortnight. It's the obvious pick for designers and researchers, but the case for going is wider than that — product managers get a year's worth of craft conversations compressed into 48 hours, and engineers who care how their work lands get to hear users described by people who study them for a living. It's a paid ticket, so this is the one to clear with whoever holds the training budget. Book before Wednesday; conferences at this scale don't do walk-ins.

The week, day by day

Friday 5Founders Hub Friday co-working at the Bayes Centre, 09:30, free. No agenda, just founders working alongside founders. The quiet start to a loud week.

Monday 8 — Two very different free daytime options. Celebrating Young Changemakers opens the Edinburgh Finance Festival at the EICC, 10:00 — pupil-led social enterprises, and a window into where the festival is heading. Then at 13:00, Web going Green marks the first Green Software Foundation Scotland event, hybrid at the Edinburgh Futures Institute (Room 1.55), with the University of Edinburgh now a GSF Scottish Partner. Sustainable software is having a moment here — get in at meeting one.

Tuesday 9 — The evening splits. ProductTank Edinburgh at CodeBase, 17:30, free: three featured speakers and the city's most reliable product crowd. Or Blockchain Scotland at the Bayes Centre, 17:00, £20 — talks and demos on tokenisation and Web3 infrastructure, convened by Maciej Zurawski of Redeem Technologies. The only paid evening before Thursday, and priced like it expects you to mean it.

Wednesday 10 — UX Scotland, day one. See above.

Thursday 11 — Four events, three free, two in the same building. Venture Café's Thursday Gathering at the Edinburgh Futures Institute, 17:00, teams up with Converge — Scotland's business creation programme for university talent. PostgreSQL Edinburgh runs low-key and technical at Paterson's Land (Room 1.21), 17:00. Visualizing Climate Change brings Andrew Sudmant of the Edinburgh Climate Change Institute to EFI Room 0.7 at 17:30, co-hosted with VisHub's 1,200-member community. And CIM Scotland takes the Scotsman Picturehouse at 17:30 (paid) for an evening on creativity, culture and customer experience.

Who should go where

Founders — Thursday's Venture Café x Converge pairing is your room: university spinout talent plus the usual open-door crowd. Bookend the week with Founders Hub on Friday morning if you want heads-down time before the noise starts.

Investors — a quiet week on paper, but Venture Café Thursday is where early dealflow loiters in this city, and the Converge tie-in raises the spinout density. Mark next Thursday's Ethical Finance Global now — more on that below.

Builders — PostgreSQL Thursday if you run databases in anger, ProductTank Tuesday if you ship product, UX Scotland if you can get the ticket signed off. Skip the generic socials; the technical calendar is too good this week.

Sales & marketing — CIM Scotland on Thursday is the clear call. The Scotsman Picturehouse is a venue people actually remember being in, which helps when you're the one following up.

By the numbers

Ten events this week. Seven free. Busiest night: Thursday, with four events between 17:00 and 17:30. The Edinburgh Futures Institute hosts three of the ten — if you only learn one building this month, make it that one.

Last week, briefly

The Edinburgh Futures Institute earned its keep last week too: Tuesday's Civic University evening put Beth Simone Noveck — NYU professor and former US Deputy CTO — on stage to talk democracy and AI, while the Greentech Meetup gave the cleantech crowd its breakfast slot at CodeBase. What that means for this week: the EFI is the scene's centre of gravity right now, and Monday's green software session keeps the climate thread running.

Worth knowing

  • The Thursday double-up is doable. Venture Café (17:00) and the climate data-viz meetup (17:30) are both inside the Edinburgh Futures Institute. Start at one, walk upstairs to the other.
  • The Edinburgh Finance Festival starts Monday with the Young Changemakers event at the EICC and builds across two weeks to Ethical Finance Global at the Sheraton on 18 June. Fintech people: pace yourselves.
  • UX Scotland is the week's only multi-day ticket — sort registration before Wednesday, not on the morning.

That's the week. Browse everything on the Edinburgh listings, and if you run an event we haven't caught, submit it — we'd rather list it than hear about it afterwards.
