Amsterdam tech events this week: one expo floor, five Wednesday rooms (16-22 October 2026)

If you saved a link for the Zebra Legal startup clinic earlier this year, it books the wrong event. Our row for The Nursery Presents: Legal Know-How for Startups by Zebra Legal pointed at the 11 May edition of the same session until we caught it this week; it now points at Wednesday 21 October. That is the shape of Amsterdam tech events this week - fourteen on the city page, eleven free, the value in the details rather than the volume. Monday belongs to one building, Wednesday splits five ways, the weekend is two people-sized rooms.

The weekend, first

Sat 17 Oct, 09:30 - Coffee Coding, The Coffee Room on Kinkerstraat, free. Appsterdam's Saturday co-working: bring a laptop and whatever you are stuck on, and work next to someone who can unblock it. No programme, which is the point.

Sun 18 Oct, 13:30 - Indie Game Devs Get Together, De Nieuwe Anita, free. Playtesting, works in progress and shipping talk, in a bar, on a Sunday. The only games room on the page, and the easiest door in the city if you have just arrived.

Monday belongs to the RAI

TechEx Europe 2026 - Mon 19 and Tue 20 October, from 08:45, RAI Amsterdam, listed free.

Eight co-located enterprise technology conferences under one roof: AI and big data, cyber security and cloud, digital transformation, IoT, data centres and intelligent automation among them. Biggest thing in the city this week by a distance - and this week's correction. The same floor sat on our page three times under three sector names, as if Amsterdam had three expos at once. It does not. Two of those rows are entity pages now; this one covers the lot.

Two genuinely separate sessions share the building. The TechEx Amsterdam Hackathon 2026 (Mon 09:00, free) runs two days alongside the expo, LabLab AI's teams building AI apps and agents on site. Women in Product NL at TechEx (Mon 14:00, free) is a drop-in on the floor itself, for product people working where AI meets the business.

Venue corner: the RAI, and which door you need

Three rows, one building, three registrations. The expo row gets you the floor; the hackathon is its own sign-up under its own organiser; the drop-in assumes you are already inside. Our data even spells it two ways, "RAI Amsterdam" and "Amsterdam RAI". Plan the day around one badge.

Hidden gem: Formula 1 telemetry, Monday evening

Mon 19 Oct, 17:45 - Hack Night The Netherlands, Elastic Amsterdam, free.

<img src="https://joezfbehxxpcrpliygvo.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/hero-images/event-amsterdam-hack-night-the-netherlands-1019.webp" alt="Hack Night The Netherlands at Elastic Amsterdam" class="w-full rounded-lg my-6" loading="lazy" />

Elastic's first Amsterdam hack night, run with Hopsworks: an open Formula 1 seasonal telemetry dataset, a few hours to enrich it and build dashboards on it. Highest-scoring evening on our Amsterdam board, and worth more than an extra hour on the expo floor. Real data, a deadline and someone to ask beats another panel about agents.

Tuesday, quietly

Tue 20 Oct, 18:00 - Tech Careers in the Netherlands: How to Get In, The Social Hub Amsterdam City, free. Kooch Community with UpLeveled, TechMeUp and KGT Consulting on what Dutch recruiters look for and the routes in. If you moved here recently, the most practical hour of the week.

Wednesday is the pile-up

  • 09:00 - Code BEAM Europe 2026, Philharmonie, EUR 595. The European conference for the BEAM ecosystem - Erlang, Elixir, Gleam and the runtime underneath - with language creators and core maintainers on the programme. Venue note below.
  • 10:00 - Legal Know-How for Startups by Zebra Legal, Startup Village Amsterdam, free. A practical two-topic clinic for early-stage founders, public registration, part of Startup Village's Nursery programme.
  • 16:00 - PWN Netherlands: AI Tea Salon, Apollo - Merin, EUR 43.13. Small-group AI-literacy work with Bureau Veritas: where AI genuinely helps in professional work and where it does not.
  • 17:30 walk-in - AI Builders Amsterdam - October, StartDock on Prins Hendrikkade, free. Three short talks, pizza at 18:00, then drinks. For AI engineers and founders rather than the curious.
  • 18:00 - Amsterdam JUG Meetup at ING, ING Cedar on Bijlmerdreef, free. Four talks: security culture, AI on the JVM, keeping language models alive in production.

Thursday closes it

17:30 - Rising Sales Sessions NL - October 2026, Bonnie Office, free. How account executives at Dutch SaaS companies actually use AI to hit target - peer talks from working AEs, not a vendor demo. Gated; see below.

19:30 - nr.72 | Fanny Hamelin, Thonik, Amsterdam Oost, paid. Edition 72 of the Line Up lecture series at the design studio, Fanny Hamelin on her practice from her first typeface onwards.

Who should go where

Sales and marketing, you have one proper room. Thursday's Rising Sales Sessions is peer talks from AEs who carry a number. If you sell into enterprise IT the RAI holds your buyers, but two days of badge-scanning is a poor trade against one evening with people doing your job. Take the evening.

Builders, Monday evening then one Wednesday. The Elastic hack night is the best free technical room of the week. Then AI Builders if you build with models, the JUG at ING if you ship on the JVM - not both, opposite ends of the city. Code BEAM only if your employer pays.

Founders. Wednesday morning at Startup Village is a free legal hour that normally arrives as an invoice. No pitch nights on the page this week, so use the clinic.

Investors, this is a blank week. Nothing here is built for dealflow, and the TechEx floor is a sales environment, not a sourcing one. Come back next Friday.

Designers and product. Monday's drop-in at the RAI, then Thursday at Thonik - the only design room on the page, and the only event this week with nothing to do with AI.

Worth knowing

  • One floor, not three. TechEx Europe, an AI and big data expo and a data centre expo were three city-page rows for one hall on the same two days. Two are demoted; the hackathon and the drop-in are genuinely separate and stay.
  • The Philharmonie on the Code BEAM row is the Haarlem building, not an Amsterdam address. It keeps its city-page slot on an earlier geo-check - just budget the train rather than the tram.
  • A "free" label is sometimes our software, not the organiser. Where nobody publishes a price, our row defaults to free - TechEx included. Check the badge tiers before you count on it.
  • Rising Sales Sessions is gated. Our run found registration closed to walk-up and said so in the listing, while the availability field still reads available. Read the listing first.
  • Thursday's design lecture is paid with no figure published, so we print none rather than invent one.

Tell us what we are missing

Fourteen events is a real week here - but a week where one building takes Monday and five rooms take Wednesday usually means something quieter went unlisted. The rest of October sits on the full Amsterdam listings. What did we miss? A hardware night, a Dutch-language session, a meetup that has run three years without a website - send it over and it is in next Friday's post.
