Amsterdam tech events this week: eight rooms on one Thursday, and six of them are free (18–24 Sep 2026)

Thursday 24 September, somewhere between 17:00 and 18:30, Amsterdam tech splits seven ways. A fireside on the Keizersgracht, a career panel out by the ArenA, a build night at Mollie, Ruby at Catawiki, data engineering in Nieuw-West, the Java user group at Picnic, and Rust across the IJ on NDSM. Six of those rooms cost nothing. Hold that thought, because the four days before it are the most expensive stretch of tech events Amsterdam has had all year.

Fourteen events on our board for 18–24 September. Eight land on that one Thursday. The rest of the week is a conference season with a price list attached.

The badge half: four ticketed days

Friday opens with DigiMarCon Europe 2026 — 18 September, 09:00, Holiday Inn Amsterdam Arena Towers, €367.08. Search, paid social, marketing automation and AI-assisted content, aimed at in-house marketing teams. Then the calendar goes silent: nothing Saturday, nothing Sunday, nothing Monday.

The Big One: HumanX EMEA takes the RAI

HumanX EMEA 2026 — Tuesday 22 September, 09:00, RAI Amsterdam. €1,200.

HumanX brings its US AI conference format to Europe for the first time and picks Amsterdam to do it, filling the RAI for three days with 2,500-plus senior practitioners and 200-plus media. The people behind it built Money20/20 and Shoptalk, which tells you exactly what this is: a machine for putting buyers, founders and press in one building, run by a team who have done it at scale before. It is the only featured conference on our Amsterdam page this week.

€1,200 is a real decision. Selling enterprise AI, raising, or needing European press in one place? Cheap week. An engineer who wants to get better at the job? That is four months of meetup pizza, and Thursday will teach you more.

Two more badges follow. BlenderCon 2026 runs Wednesday 23 September from 09:00, €300 — the Blender Foundation's annual conference from its home city, across the open-source 3D pipeline from geometry nodes to the studios shipping with it. And TiECON Amsterdam 2026 opens Thursday at 09:00 at the Novotel Amsterdam City, €157.41: a day on building and funding companies, where the structured mentoring is what earns the ticket, not the panels.

The best value on the board is Introduction to Deep Learning at the Netherlands eScience Center, Science Park 402 — Tuesday 22 September, 09:30, €50 for two hands-on days with Keras.

Free daytime, before the evening rush

Two free working sessions bookend the paid days. Break & Defend AI Applications at Nebius, Schipholweg 1, Friday 18 September from 13:00: prompt injection, tool-use abuse, data exfiltration through agents, hands-on. Security work on AI applications is badly under-covered here, and this costs nothing.

Then Accel AI Innovate at Prosus AI House on the Zuidas, Wednesday 23 September, 08:30, also free. VC-hosted mornings are worth attending for the room more than the stage: European AI founders plus Accel's own people, on the day everyone else is paying €300.

Free networking events in Amsterdam this week: the Thursday cluster

Build Night #5 @ Mollie — Thursday 24 September, 17:30, Mollie, Keizersgracht 126. Free.

An open, relaxed evening for people building their own ideas alongside a job or a degree, this edition loosely themed on distribution. The strongest free room on our board, and the least intimidating door on the list.

The rest, same evening, all free: Data Thursday — September at B. Amsterdam, Johan Huizingalaan 763a, 18:00 — two talks, food, people who run pipelines for a living. September Amsterdam Ruby Meetup at Catawiki on Jollemanhof, 18:00, a group that talks production rather than framework tourism. Amsterdam JUG Meetup at Picnic on the Cruquiusweg, 18:00 — JVM talks from a team running one of the country's larger Java estates. Rust Meetup @ BlockTech at BlockTech Campus NDSM, 18:30, systems talks with a crypto-infrastructure lean given the venue.

Two more that evening ask something extra. Fireside Chat with Ashwin Sreenivas at RIVVIA, 17:00, free — Sreenivas co-founded Helia and was at Palantir before that, which gives him an unusually concrete read on enterprise AI deployment. Who should go where

Builders. Thursday, and pick by stack: Data Thursday for pipelines, the JUG for JVM services, Amsterdam.rb for Rails, Rust for anything that has to be fast. If none of those is your stack, Build Night at Mollie. If you only have one evening this week, make it Thursday — nothing else comes close.

Founders. Wednesday morning at Prosus AI House for Accel: free, and the highest ratio of useful people to euros all week. TiECON is the ticketed alternative and the mentoring is the reason to buy it. Skip HumanX unless you are selling into enterprise or raising in Europe right now.

Investors. Two options, and they are opposites: HumanX for seniority and volume at €1,200, Accel's morning for free and early. If you can only do one, do Accel.

Marketers and security engineers. Friday is yours, at opposite ends of town and of the price list — DigiMarCon at the ArenA, or breaking LLM applications at Nebius, free.

By the numbers

Fourteen events, eight free. Six ticketed, and doing all six would cost €2,084.49. Eight of the fourteen fall on Thursday 24 September, seven of those after 17:00. Saturday, Sunday and Monday are empty.

Worth knowing

• Correction: Thursday's fireside with Ashwin Sreenivas is at full capacity and running a waitlist. It was open when we listed it; it is not now. Join the list rather than cycling to the Keizersgracht on spec.
• Correction: RIVVIA's address is Keizersgracht 264. We previously listed the venue without a house number. Note Build Night is also on the Keizersgracht, at 126 — different stretch of canal, easy mistake to make in the dark.
• That is the second Amsterdam host in two weeks to report being oversubscribed. AI House's Agentic Culture round table on 11 September closed sold out; this one is on a waitlist. Small free rooms with a named speaker are filling faster here than they are being announced. Register the day you see one.
• BlenderCon carries no venue on our board. The address comes with the ticket, not from us.
