Amsterdam tech events this week: the 48 hours that swallow the rest (2–8 October 2026)

Amsterdam tech events 2–8 Oct: 25 on the city page.

No city in our network is as concentrated this week as Amsterdam. Twenty-five tech events on the city page between Friday and Thursday, and fifteen of them land on Tuesday and Wednesday alone. That's World Summit AI's tenth-anniversary edition doing what it does to a calendar: for 48 hours everything here either orbits the summit or pointedly ignores it. Nineteen of the twenty-five carry a free label — with one caveat below.

Before you plan Tuesday evening, read this

Tue 6 Oct, 18:00 — Agent Harnesses and Managed Agents 101 — Meetup w/ Harrison Chase (Amsterdam). On paper, the highest-signal free room of the week: the person who wrote the framework most agent stacks run on, in a meetup rather than a keynote slot.

It is also on a waitlist, and the organiser has been unambiguous. The venue is at maximum capacity, and only confirmed, approved registrations will be admitted — waitlisted guests will be turned away at the door. Our own registration wasn't accepted, and the blank venue field is deliberate: the address goes to approved guests only.

So if you're not approved, don't travel on Tuesday. Build the evening around something else and treat an approval as a bonus.

The big one: World Summit AI 2026

Wed 7 Oct, from 09:00 — World Summit AI 2026, Taets Art & Event Park, €1,495.

Tenth anniversary: 300+ speakers across ten tracks, 10,000+ attendees, 100+ exhibitors, with Daphne Koller, Zico Kolter, Audrey Tang, Harrison Chase and Karen Hao headlining. At €1,495 this badge is for people whose employer is paying or who are selling into the floor. If that's not you, the summit still drags a week of free programming into the city behind it — almost all of it below.

  • Mon 5 Oct, 16:30 — The True Cost of AI, EDGE Workspaces Olympic, free. World AI Week opens with a working session putting real numbers on compute cost and footprint.
  • Tue 6 Oct, 16:00 — World Summit AI Opening Night, Circa, free. The visiting crowd in one room before the conference floor absorbs them.
  • Tue 6 Oct, 16:00 — Women Building AI: What Holds Up in 2026, AI House Amsterdam, free. What survived contact with production this year, with women building and funding those systems on the programme. Fills fast.
  • Tue 6 Oct, 18:00 — Pre-World Summit AI: Pitch Night, StartDock Singel, free. AI startups pitching into the investor traffic the week brings in.
  • Wed 7 Oct, 09:00 — AI Startup-Investor Matchmaking Event 2026, Lab 44, free. Screened 15–20 minute one-on-ones with VCs, regional funds and corporate investors. Not a walk-in.
  • Wed 7 Oct, 18:30–20:30 — AI Salon Amsterdam — World Summit AI Special, Lab-44, Zaandam, free. A correction worth reading twice: we had this at 20:00 on the summit site. The organiser's own confirmation moved it to 18:30–20:30 at Lab-44 in Zaandam. Budget the travel.

The week that isn't about the summit

Hard science. The Next Computational Toolkit: Quantum Computing for Chemistry, Pharma and Material Science (Tue 6 Oct, 15:00, Meet Berlage, free) is a World AI Week session but a genuinely technical one: where quantum is useful today.

<img src="https://joezfbehxxpcrpliygvo.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/hero-images/event-amsterdam-the-next-computational-toolkit-quantum-computing-for-chemistry-pharma-and-materi-1006.webp" alt="Quantum Computing for Chemistry, Pharma and Material Science at Meet Berlage, Amsterdam" class="w-full rounded-lg my-6" loading="lazy" />

Also free: SustainaLab Talks: MOFs and the Nitrogen Crisis (Thu 8 Oct, 15:30, Matrix ONE) on framework sensors for nitrogen monitoring, and Climate Canals (Tue 6 Oct, 17:30, Epicenter) on robotics and sensing against the climate crisis.

The argument about your job. Tuesday holds three positions on AI-assisted development and you can take only one. Figma Commons Amsterdam (10:00, COKO Space, two days) is a working workshop rather than a keynote conference — the week's best value if you design for a living. VibeConf 2026 (10:00, Pathé Tuschinski, €195) takes the full-day view of shipping when models write most of the code. Vibe Coding vs AI-Driven Development (14:00, StartDock Keizersgracht 482, free) is the short sceptical version.

The regulars, all free. Amsterdam JUG at Mollie (Mon 5 Oct, 18:00): two JVM talks from engineers running it at payment scale, then pizza. Thursday 8 Oct stacks three — NL-RSE Meet-up (13:00, Netherlands eScience Center) on sustainable scientific code, AMS DB October Meetup (18:00, Oracle – The Warehouse), vendor-neutral despite the host, and PyData NL's Data from the Physical World (18:00, Plantage Middenlaan 62) on sensor data.

The weekend, first. La Machine: Robotics Hackathon by Tech Makers kicks off Fri 2 Oct at 17:30 across three days, with hands-on Hugging Face SO-101 hardware and demos Sunday; the address arrives with the RSVP. Then WE Make Trouble Hackathon 2026 (Sat 3 Oct, 09:00, Kauwgomballenfabriek, Noord): teams form on site, prototypes instead of decks.

Where the money is. Amsterdam Fintech Event 2026 (Wed 7 Oct, 09:00, World Trade Center, two days) puts banks, PSPs, regulators and the startups selling to them in one building. It's paid; the figure isn't in our data, so we're not inventing one. SaaSiest Amsterdam 2026 (Wed 7 Oct, €395, venue on registration) is operator-led B2B SaaS; IAB Europe's Retail Media Impact Summit (Wed 7 Oct, 09:30, Felix Meritis, €693.32) senior adtech; Governing Algorithms for Care (Mon 5 Oct, 09:00, Felix Meritis, €150, two days) the policy end of healthtech.

And one for the Jordaan. Hackers & Founders Meetup Amsterdam — October (Thu 8 Oct, 19:00, Cafe de Muurbloem): no stage, no deck, technical founders in a bar. The right place to end a week this loud.

Who should go where

Investors first, because the dealflow is unusually legible. Wednesday's matchmaking day is screened 15–20 minute meetings, the densest sourcing morning you'll get here this quarter; Tuesday's pitch night is the informal version. You don't need the €1,495 badge — the founders on the summit floor are the ones in the free rooms around it.

Founders. One evening: Tuesday's pitch night. One day: Wednesday's matchmaking. The visiting investor traffic is the opportunity, not the programme. Don't build your week around the LangChain meetup unless an approval is already in your inbox.

Builders. Pick one of Tuesday's three AI-development sessions and skip the other two. Tuesday afternoon's quantum session is the most novel technical talk of the week. Thursday evening belongs to the regulars: AMS DB and PyData NL are where the technique is.

Sales and marketing. IAB Europe's retail media summit is the buyer-dense room; SaaSiest is where Dutch SaaS commercial leadership will be. Both paid, both better than walking a 100-exhibitor floor.

Worth knowing

  • On the AI Salon correction above: our description still reads as though it's on the summit site. The venue field is the right one.
  • Three listings have no address: the LangChain meetup (approval only), La Machine and SaaSiest. The blanks are deliberate — we don't publish an address we haven't verified.
  • Two "free" labels are ours, not the organiser's. WE Make Trouble Hackathon and Figma Commons: our API defaults a missing price to "free". Check before you assume nothing's due.
  • An "available" ticket label proves nothing. Our ingest normalises sold-out, waitlist and invite-only back to "available". LangChain's waitlist survived; plenty across the network didn't.
  • Two organiser fields to take with salt: the StartDock session is stored against StartDock, which runs the space not the event, and Tuesday's pitch night against World AI Week, though it came from another calendar.

Across the network: Harrison Chase does two cities in two nights

Mon 5 Oct he's in Paris for the LangChain Meetup with Harrison Chase and Pigment — free, 18:15, address on registration — and Tue 6 Oct he's here. If the Amsterdam door is shut to you, Paris the night before is the same speaker with a different queue, and there's a direct train.

Do I need to register in advance?

Earlier than you'd think. Four of the strongest free rooms — the LangChain meetup, Wednesday's matchmaking, Women Building AI and the salon in Zaandam — are approval-gated, screened or capacity-limited. Approval-gating costs you the address as well as the seat, and it only lands once you're in.

Plan it, then tell us what we missed

The full week is on our Amsterdam listings — the busiest week any city in our network has this edition, so we've certainly missed something. Send it over and it'll be in next Friday's post, which is quieter and better for it: Robot-Con at Sporthallen Zuid on the 13th, TechDays at Circa on the 15th.
