Amsterdam tech events this week: four seats left in the best room, and €800 of conference with no address (25 Sep–1 Oct 2026)

The best-value room in Amsterdam tech this week is free and had four seats left on Monday. Its own listing page does not say so. That gap — between what an organiser emails and what the ticket page shows — separates a good week here from a wasted evening.

Fourteen tech events on our Amsterdam board between Friday 25 September and Thursday 1 October. Ten cost nothing. The four that do add up to just over €1,040 — and two of them carry no address at all.

The Big One: a free meetup, over two conferences

AI Coding Adoption Ladder & the MCP Wire — Tuesday 29 September, 18:00, at Studytube, Danzigerkade 6, free, from AI Native Amsterdam.

Two halves, both well chosen. First, the adoption ladder: how engineering organisations actually climb from autocomplete to agentic workflows — the question every CTO here is being asked by a board that read one article. Second, a technical walk through the MCP wire protocol, the layer underneath the demos where the interesting failures live.

We are calling it over the two ticketed conferences running the same days: a €550 conference gives you a programme, this gives you the people who have already done it, in a room small enough to ask a follow-up question.

Friday: two free ways in, then an empty weekend

Digitale Autonomie Unconference opens the window at 10:30 on Friday 25 September, Marineterrein Amsterdam, Kattenburgerstraat 5, free, from Code for NL. Public-sector cloud dependence, open-source alternatives, and what sovereignty costs to implement. Unconference format: the agenda is whoever turns up — here, people running government systems rather than writing papers about them.

That afternoon, Amsterdam STEM Women Graduate Careers Event at the Mövenpick Hotel Amsterdam City Centre, Piet Heinkade 11, 13:00, free — employers hiring into engineering, data and technical graduate programmes. Finishing a degree this year? That hour beats a hundred applications.

Nothing Saturday, nothing Sunday. Take the bike out.

Monday: platform engineering, and a hackerspace evening

Hybrid Platform Conference 2026 runs Monday 28 September from 09:00 at Hotel Casa Amsterdam, Eerste Ringdijkstraat 4, €195 — internal developer platforms, the Kubernetes layer under them, the operating model around both. Of the four paid days this week it has the clearest audience: if you own an IDP, this is your room.

Tuesday: three free rooms, three directions

Pitch & Pizza at Achmea Impact Ventures, MediArena 5-8, 17:30, free — five minutes to pitch an early-stage idea, no deck required, with feedback from the team and a route into validation for strong concepts. Few free evenings put you in front of an investment team with no application form.

PostgreSQL Usergroup NL — Fall Edition at ABN AMRO, Gustav Mahlerlaan 10, 17:30, free: query planning, replication and upgrades, from people running Postgres where those words have consequences.

CTO Craft Con: Europe 2026 starts Tuesday at 09:00 and runs into Wednesday, €550, venue on registration. Scaling teams, technical strategy, hiring, and the large part of the CTO job that is not code. The community is the real asset — two days with it is a different purchase from two days of talks.

Wednesday: a summit, then three free evenings

TechSummit Amsterdam 2026 takes Wednesday 30 September from 09:00, €250, venue on registration — a broad day across software engineering, cloud and applied AI.

The evening is free three times over. Google Cloud User Group Benelux — September at Xebia Amsterdam, 17:30: platform, data and Vertex AI from practitioners rather than Google's field team. Amsterdam JUG OTel Workshop at Dash0, Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal 162, 18:00 — instrument a JVM service, get traces flowing, find out what observability really costs. Bring a laptop. And September Cybersecurity Social at Sint Jorissteeg 2, 18:00: blue team, red team, GRC and security engineering, over drinks, no talks.

Thursday: a hackathon at NEMO, an app by bedtime

UvA/AUAS AI Chat Hackathon runs Thursday 1 October from 09:00 at NEMO Science Museum, Oosterdok 2, free, through the Amsterdam AI partnership — university and applied-sciences teams building together in a museum on the water.

That evening, AI4ALL Masterclass: Build Your First AI App at Nieuwe Herengracht 95, 17:30, €45.24 — three hours, blank editor to working AI app, live with the Biscuit team. For people who can read code but have never shipped an LLM feature.

Who should go where

Builders. Tuesday, by what you maintain: Postgres at ABN AMRO if you own a database, the MCP Wire meetup if you own the AI tooling story. Wednesday's OTel workshop is the most hands-on hour of the week.

Founders. Tuesday at MediArena: five minutes and no deck in front of a real investment team beats any paid networking format, free.

Investors. Thin. Pitch & Pizza is the only room where early-stage dealflow gathers, and it is a corporate venture team's own evening, not a neutral demo night.

Engineering leaders. Two prices. €550 buys two days of CTO Craft's community; nothing buys you Tuesday at Studytube with the people actually rolling this out. Take the free one.

Hidden gem: Go, at 19:15, in a hackerspace

Go Evening at TechInc — Monday 28 September, 19:15, TechInc hackerspace at ACTA, Louwesweg 1, free, from Technologia Incognita. The format is nearly extinct: bring a laptop and a problem, work through Go code with other developers, no speaker and no sponsor. A quarter-past-seven start in Nieuw-West and nothing to sit through: the people there are the ones who actually wanted to write code on a Monday.

Worth knowing

• Tuesday's MCP Wire meetup is nearly full and its page does not say so. The organiser's announcement on 22 September: "There are only four seats left, so register soon." Our flag reads near capacity; the listing carries no sold-out banner. Trust the organiser.
• Both mid-week conferences sit on our board without a venue. CTO Craft Con: Europe (€550) and TechSummit Amsterdam (€250) have no address in our data and we will not guess one — it comes with your registration. CTO Craft Con also runs Tuesday into Wednesday, straight over the top of TechSummit: buying both is buying a clash.
• Tuesday's three free evenings are in three directions. MediArena in the southeast, the Zuidas in the south, the Houthavens in the northwest, all between 17:30 and 18:00. Pick one and stay.
• Most of this week genuinely is free, but read the ticket tiers. Ten of fourteen listings cost nothing outright. Elsewhere in our network we corrected an event published as free whose free tier was restricted to approved partners. Nothing here looks like that, but the habit is worth keeping.

Fourteen rooms, ten free, one nearly full, and two conferences that will not say where they are until you pay.
