Amsterdam tech events this week: the whole week is Thursday night (28 Aug–3 Sep 2026)

Six tech events in Amsterdam this week. Five are on Thursday 3 September, and four of those start between 17:00 and 19:00 — in Zuidoost, on a boat, in De Pijp and in the Jordaan. That is not a calendar, it is a scheduling conflict with catering. So this week's guide to networking events in Amsterdam is less about what to attend than about which way to point your bike on Thursday evening, because you cannot have all of it.

The Big One: engineering with AI agents, for people past the demo stage

AI Native Netherlands #11 — Engineering with AI Agents: From Multi-Agent Builds to Agent-Ready Codebases — Thursday 3 September, 18:00, Buro de Pijp. Free.

The eleventh edition, and the framing is why it takes the top slot: production engineering with agents, beyond demos and theory. Most agent talks this year were somebody's weekend project narrated with confidence. This one is pitched at engineers and technical leaders who have already shipped something agentic and hit the awkward part — that the hard problem is not the agent, it is the codebase you are pointing it at.

It carries the highest interest score on our Amsterdam board this week, it is free, and it is the only room in the window where "agent-ready codebase" means the same thing to everyone present. If you build for a living and you only get one Thursday, spend it here.

Thursday 3 September, by the hour

10:00–18:00 — IntelliSys 2026, the 12th Intelligent Systems Conference, Mercure Amsterdam City Hotel, €750. Two days, researchers and industry practitioners from over 60 countries. A conference, not a mixer — the €750 buys a research programme and corridor conversations, and it is the week's only daytime commitment. It releases you at 18:00, early enough to still make an evening room. If you are not in that world, skip it without guilt.

17:00–19:30 — Amsterdam JUG Meetup at BeFrank, BeFrank, De Entree, Zuidoost. Free. The Java User Group returns, hosted by BeFrank, with David Veen on why teams have to own the thing they ship. It starts at 17:00, doors and food from the same hour, so eating is part of the event rather than a warm-up to it. Zuidoost is a proper metro ride, not a canal-side stroll, so leave earlier than feels necessary.

17:45–20:00 — Floating Tech Talk #6 XXL Edition, departure point confirmed on registration, €5. See the hidden gem below.

18:00 — AI Native Netherlands #11 (above), Buro de Pijp, free.

19:00–22:00 — Hackers & Founders Meetup, Café de Muurbloem, Jordaan. Free. Drinks and conversation, with a talk from Thijs Cadier, co-founder of AppSignal and a regular here since the meetup's early days. Its three-hour run is the useful part of this week's geometry: the one event with a tail long enough to arrive at second, whatever you did first. De Pijp to the Jordaan is a twenty-minute ride.

And the one night that is not Thursday:

Wednesday 2 September, 18:00–21:00 — Lenny's Newsletter Meetup in Amsterdam, A Beautiful Mess on Oosterdokskade. Free.

Run by members of the Lenny's Newsletter community with Product Meetup Amsterdam, and the organisers are refreshingly upfront that the draw is the room rather than a speaker. Product people who read the same things and have the same arguments, in one place, for nothing. In a week where Thursday is a traffic jam, Wednesday is the evening you can actually plan around.

Who should go where

Builders and engineers — Thursday, AI Native Netherlands, and do not overthink it. If you write Java rather than agent orchestration, Zuidoost is your night instead; the two overlap, and Zuidoost is not a detour. Product managers — Wednesday. Lenny's is the only product-shaped room in the window, it is free, and it beats fighting for a spot in Thursday's pile-up. Founders — Hackers & Founders, 19:00 to 22:00: long enough to be your second stop, informal enough that showing up alone is normal. Investors — a quiet one. No pitch night, no demo day; the AI Native room has the technical founders in it, but go as a listener, not a scout. Researchers — IntelliSys is the only conference in town, and the price tells you it is an institutional expense rather than a personal one.

Hidden gem: the last boat of the summer

Floating Tech Talks does what the name suggests — tech conversation, on the water, in a format the organisers cheerfully describe as deliberately wobbly. Edition #6 is the XXL one and the last of the summer: two boats instead of one, double the usual capacity, €5, casting off at 17:45 and docking at 20:00. The departure point is only confirmed on registration, so this is not a walk-up.

We flag it because it gets skipped for looking unserious, and it is the opposite. A boat is a closed room with no exit, which makes it structurally better at conversation than any bar in this city. If standing-around networking exhausts you, an evening you cannot leave until it docks is a feature.

FAQ corner

Can I actually do two Thursday events? Two is comfortable. AI Native Netherlands at 18:00 in De Pijp, then Hackers & Founders in the Jordaan, which runs until 22:00 — a twenty-minute ride into a room still full. The boat works as a first half too; it docks at 20:00. The pairing that fails is Java plus agents: the JUG runs 17:00–19:30 in Zuidoost, AI Native starts at 18:00 in De Pijp.

Are the free ones really free? Yes. The JUG meetup, AI Native Netherlands, Hackers & Founders and Lenny's are all free, no upsell. The only two with a price are the boat at €5 and IntelliSys at €750, and those two are not aimed at the same person.

Worth knowing

One thing is happening in Amsterdam this weekend that you will not find on our pages: Personify by TAG × Anthropic × Tulip, Sunday 30 August.
