Barcelona tech events this week: the schools are running it (16-22 October 2026)

Barcelona tech events 16-22 Oct: 23 on the city page, 17 free.

Sort this week's tech events in Barcelona by the building rather than the day and a pattern falls out: eight of the 23 on our city page are run by, or held inside, a school - IESE, Esade, Elisava, EINA, IED, ESDI, BAU and the PRBB research campus. For a city that sells itself on beaches and 4YFN-scale conferences, the networking events in Barcelona this week are unusually academic and unusually free: 17 of the 23 cost nothing.

So the week is sorted by who owns the room - campuses, then offices and auditoriums, then the bars, the park and the waterfront.

On campus

Fri 16 Oct, 09:00 - INVEST in NATURE 2026, IESE Business School. Free. Nactiva puts Catalan companies, investors and ecosystem leaders in one room around natural capital. It scores higher than anything else on our page this week, and it is free. In Spanish.

Fri 16 Oct, 17:00 - Software Crafters Barcelona 2026, BAU in Poblenou. Paid, no figure reaches us. Thirteenth edition: two days of talks and hands-on sessions on testing and design, in Spanish, and the deepest local engineering crowd of the week.

Fri 16 Oct, 09:00 - Articuland Barcelona 2026, PRBB. Free. Elearning and instructional design at the biomedical research park, with Genis Roca on how AI is reshaping teams. In Spanish.

Tue 20 Oct, 11:00 - Cultivating Judgement in the Age of Generative AI, Eina Bosc. Free. What design education contributes once generative tools make production cheap. The week's most ambitious free hour, and the one row with no language recorded.

Wed 21 Oct, 18:30 - Strategic Design Clinic, IED Barcelona. Free. A working session, not a lecture, on problems that are ambiguous rather than hard. In English.

Thu 22 Oct, 18:30 - Vibe Coding Workshop with Domestic Data Streamers, Elisava. Free. Code as a tool of critique and public intervention - a design-school reading of vibe coding. Mixed-language.

The offices and the auditoriums

Tue 20 Oct, 08:00 - swampUP Europe 2026, InterContinental Barcelona. EUR 345. JFrog's European developer conference: three days on the software supply chain - binary management, DevSecOps, MLOps, AI-assisted delivery. A vendor's own user conference, but three days of labs is a conference, not a pitch.

Tue 20 Oct, 14:30 - AI Connect 2026, Auditori L'illa. Free. Catalonia's AI research network gathers its groups, companies and public bodies - the closest thing to a regional state of applied AI. Mixed-language.

Thu 22 Oct, 10:00 - AppGala Barcelona 2026, Col-legi d'Arquitectes de Catalunya. EUR 149. Mobile growth case studies for app founders, product leads and user-acquisition people. Narrow, priced accordingly.

The office evenings, all free: Claude Code Barcelona takes its Castanyada edition to Innoit, Wed 18:00, on what agentic coding in the terminal actually ships and where it breaks; LeadDev Barcelona at ManyChat, Thu 18:00, for team leads and engineering managers; Building Things with AI at Xplore Studio, Thu 18:00, for people who would rather build than discuss; The Future of Integration: Agentic AI at Pier 07, Thu 16:00, SAP Integration Suite behind agentic workflows; and ESDI x NTT DATA at NTT DATA, Fri 16:00, design students and prototypes.

Two need reading first. The Exclusive Visit to the ALBA Synchrotron, Mon 09:00, is a 22@Network members' visit to Spain's third-generation light source: EUR 24.20, no address on the row, so check you can get in. INTEGRATE Live at Hub Social, Wed 10:00, is free, on workplace integration programmes - adjacent to a tech audience rather than aimed at one.

The Big One: Esade's cohort pitches in the old Estrella Damm factory

Wed 21 Oct, 18:00 - eWorks Accelerator 26 - Demo Day, Antiga Fabrica Estrella Damm. Free.

<img src="https://joezfbehxxpcrpliygvo.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/hero-images/event-barcelona-eworks-accelerator-26-demo-day-1021.webp" alt="eWorks Accelerator 26 Demo Day at the Antiga Fabrica Estrella Damm, Barcelona" class="w-full rounded-lg my-6" loading="lazy" />

The finale of Esade's eWorks accelerator: the cohort's top startups pitch to investors, with a startup fair alongside. It takes the headline over the week's bigger conference for three reasons. It is free, which for a demo day with this guest list is the anomaly. It is the only room where capital and early-stage founders turn up for the same reason. And the old Estrella Damm brewery is a room people stay in for the second drink, which is where demo days are won. Work the fair as much as the stage.

The bars, the park and the waterfront

Fri 16 Oct, 17:30 - Barcelona Tech Mixer and Social, CocoVail Beer Hall. EUR 3. The weekly Friday afterwork for engineers, data and AI people, IT and recruiters. No programme beyond turning up. Mon 19 Oct, 19:30 - Beach 5K #75, La Carioca. Free. The BCN Globals waterfront run, seventy-fifth edition: five kilometres, drinks after, entrepreneur-heavy.

Free and low-key midweek: People Planet Pint at Parc dels Til-lers, Tue 18:30, monthly sustainability drinks with no talks and no pitches; Barcelona Space Friends at La Fuga, Wed 19:00, engineers, researchers and the European space supply chain; KCN Eat & Meet in Sants, Mon 18:00, structured but generalist rather than tech.

Wed 21 Oct, 13:00 - Women Investors' Lunch by SIA, El Tros de la Rambla. EUR 30. Angels, syndicate members and fund people: small, recurring, and the one investor-only room of the week.

By the numbers

Twenty-three events, 17 free, 6 paid, nothing at all on Saturday or Sunday. Wednesday is the heavy night with six rooms, four opening between 18:00 and 19:00; Friday and Thursday carry five each, Tuesday four, Monday three. Twelve are listed in English, seven in Spanish, three mixed, one not at all.

Last week, briefly

Last week was the autumn peak and our page held forty: Impact/Week at Norrsken, EuroRust and Shift AI at once, SAGA filling Montjuic. bcnrust at Helsing and the security evening at Allianz were the community high points. Twenty-three is not a collapse; with the conferences gone, the schools have the floor.

Who should go where

Builders, Thursday night is a choice. LeadDev if you manage people, Xplore Studio if you would rather build, Elisava if you want the argument about what any of it is for. Software Crafters from Friday is the deepest technical room even unpriced.

Founders. Wednesday at the eWorks demo day, and stay for the fair. Monday's Beach 5K gets you forty minutes beside people you would otherwise queue to meet. Skip the generalist formats; the specific rooms are too strong.

Investors. In order: eWorks on Wednesday for early-stage dealflow, the SIA lunch the same day, INVEST in NATURE on Friday if natural capital is a thesis and not a slide.

Designers. Your week, frankly: EINA Tuesday, IED Wednesday, Elisava Thursday, ESDI Friday. Four schools, four free rooms, four arguments about AI and judgement.

Worth knowing

  • Not one of the 23 is listed as a Catalan-language room, and our language field still cannot record one - it holds English, Spanish, mixed or nothing. Three read mixed: AI Connect, the Claude Code Castanyada edition and the Elisava workshop, all rooms where Catalan is likely. Ask the organiser rather than trusting our field.
  • Two prices behave differently. swampUP publishes EUR 345; Software Crafters reaches us paid with no figure, and we will not invent one.
  • Wednesday at 18:00 is a genuine clash. The demo day and the Claude Code meetup start on the same minute, with two more rooms opening inside the hour.

Tell us what we are missing

Twenty-three is a real week in a city that could fill fifty. Everything we hold is on the Barcelona listings page. If you run something here - especially in Catalan, which our sourcing still handles worst - send it over.
