Barcelona tech events this week: MozFest moves in, and the fringe gets there first (23-29 October 2026)

Barcelona tech events 23-29 Oct: MozFest opens at Fabra i Coats, the Tor Project speaks the night before, and Tech Spirit is in Sant Cugat not Barcelona.

Mozilla Festival is in Barcelona this year. It opens Wednesday at the Fabra i Coats complex in Sant Andreu, a converted textile mill a long way from the 22@ circuit — and the two rooms we most want to be in happen the evening before it opens. Clocks go back on Sunday, so everything from Monday runs on CET.

The big one: MozFest, and the night before it

Wed 28 Oct, 09:00 — Mozilla Festival 2026, Recinte Fabra i Coats. Ticketed. The open web's own festival: privacy, platform accountability, AI governance and the people building the alternatives, run as sessions rather than keynotes. Ticketed, and our data carries no figure — check Mozilla's own site.

Tue 27 Oct, 18:00 — Mozilla Barcelona Meetup, La Fabrica &Co, Carrer del Doctor Trueta 193. Free, and full. Mozilla staff host the evening before the festival opens, Firefox localisation engineer Pascal Chevrel among them. 74 going, waitlist open. Our page shows it bookable, which is wrong: we can store the event but not its capacity.

We opened Barcelona recently, and the local aggregators are not helping: the dedicated local site has returned nothing for three weeks and Luma's Barcelona search quietly serves Milan. This week came off organisers' own calendars. Fifteen events, sorted by what you leave with.

You leave with something you built

Tue 27 Oct, 18:00 — Superhero Battler Arena Hackathon, AI Campus Barcelona. Free. Barcelona JUG's evening build: Java, one defined problem, one sitting.

Thu 29 Oct, 18:00 — Hands On Lab: Data Pipelines and AI Agents with Cortex Code, SDG Group. Free. Pipelines and agents built in the room with Snowflake's Cortex Code. In Spanish. Go on the 29th: the organiser's own listing body still says 8 October. The header is right.

Tue 27 – Wed 28 Oct — Vaadin Create 2026, Hotel Catalonia Barcelona Plaza. EUR 999 plus VAT. Two days of Java and Vaadin, 09:00 Tuesday to 16:00 Wednesday. The EUR 390 we carried came from an aggregator and was never a real tier, and we show day one only because we cannot store an end date.

You leave with someone else's working notes

Tue 27 Oct, 18:30 — DevOpsDays BCN Meetup, El Triangle. Free. Warm-up for November's conference, and the city's most consistent platform-engineering room.

Thu 29 Oct, 18:30 — ProductTank Barcelona @ MANGO. Free. Product people in a retailer's own building: in-house leads, not agency folk.

Thursday daytime runs two in parallel: FutureTravel Summit 2026, 09:00 at Antiga Fàbrica Estrella Damm, EUR 185, travel tech in a city that runs on it; and the free HR Barcelona Roundtable, 09:30 at the Grand Hyatt, where Cambridge Spark convenes the people deciding what AI skills a company buys.

You leave with a contact who can move something

Thu 29 Oct, 18:00 — Tech Spirit BIVA, Mercantic, Carrer Ermita 1-5 — Sant Cugat del Vallès. Read the address twice: this is the first time Tech Spirit has left Barcelona. Fifteen named speakers, among them Miguel Vicente of Antai, Ruben Bonet of Fractus, Jose Terencio of Grifols and Montserrat Daban of Biocat. Run by the Ajuntament de Sant Cugat with Tech Barcelona, programme in Catalan.

Three smaller ones: Barcelona SaaS Founders Meetup, Tue 18:30 at la textil collective, free, where you compare pricing pages rather than pitch; The U.S. Expansion Playbook, Thu 18:00 at Bcombinator, EUR 5, the cheapest useful hour of the week if a US entity is on your 2027 plan; and Claude & Coffee (Women in Tech), Sat 10:00, free, the only weekend room on the page.

Hidden gem

Tue 27 Oct, 17:00 — W3PN x MozFest meetup, La Cinètika, Sant Andreu. Free. Web3Privacy Now's privacy-tech fringe, in a squatted self-managed cinema a few streets from Fabra i Coats. The bill beats most paid conferences: Isabela Fernandes, Executive Director of the Tor Project; Kay Coghill of BlackSky Algorithms; Julian Mair of Phoenix R&D on MLS encryption; Jordi Pinyana of Vocdoni, the Catalan-built private voting protocol that has processed 200,000 votes; and Mario Havel of the Prague hacklab. No feed carried it. This is the room we would choose.

Who should go where

Sales and marketing, you have the clearest week. ProductTank at MANGO and Thursday's HR roundtable both put buyers in the room. FutureTravel only pays off if travel is your sector — but then it is the whole sector in one building.

Builders. Tuesday forces a choice between the JUG hackathon, DevOpsDays and the two Mozilla rooms. Take W3PN. Thursday's Snowflake lab is the only other hands-on session.

Founders. SaaS Founders on Tuesday. Thursday is Tech Spirit or the US expansion hour: Tech Spirit has the names, Bcombinator the practical answer.

Investors. Thin week — Tech Spirit BIVA is the only deal-adjacent room, and it is out of town.

Last week, briefly

Twenty-one events, two cancelled outright: AI Connect 2026 at Auditori L'illa on the 20th and INTEGRATE Live on the 21st, both badged cancelled on Eventbrite. AI Connect was on our city page that morning. Three more sold out, including the Strategic Design Clinic at IED and the Vibe Coding Workshop with Domestic Data Streamers at Elisava. The eWorks Accelerator 26 Demo Day was the peak.

Worth knowing

Tech Spirit BIVA is not in Barcelona. Directories carry an Avinguda de Rius i Taulet address; the organiser says Mercantic, Carrer Ermita 1-5, Sant Cugat del Vallès, and the organiser is right. Same problem with the ALBA Synchrotron visit earlier this month: a Barcelona map for a site 20 km out in Cerdanyola del Vallès, members-only. We pulled it.

The AI Conference 2026, 3-4 November at Auditori l'Illa, is cancelled. Ticket sales and the call for papers are closed, refunds are being issued. Two aggregators still show it live. Do not book.

We have no field for Catalan. Our event-language list does not accept it, so Catalan events get flagged in the text: Tech Spirit this week, 30 Years of KDE last week.

Wednesday's job fair is a recruitment drive, not a meetup. Go if you are hiring or looking.

Coming up: PyConES 2026, the Spanish Python community's annual conference, is at the Universitat de Barcelona on 6-8 November — EUR 75, EUR 30 for students, talks in Spanish and English. Smart City Expo week follows on 3 November. The week of 7 December is empty because 6 and 8 December are public holidays with the 7th bridged.

Does a Meetup RSVP hold me a seat?

Not always. Claude Code Barcelona's October edition said so outright: the real registration was on Luma and a Meetup RSVP got you nothing. Our link pointed at Meetup, so anyone following it would have arrived without a place. Fixed. Where a listing names two platforms, use the organiser's.

Across the network

Paris has OpenAI's DevDay Exchange on Wednesday, with a community hackathon and demo night run by Hexa two days before it. Both free, both approval-gated.
