Barcelona tech events this week: an empty weekend, then Thursday opens five doors at once

Nothing on Friday. Nothing on Saturday. The Barcelona tech events on our city page this week open on a Sunday evening in Poblenou, and from there the calendar climbs until Thursday, when five free rooms unlock within an hour of each other.

Thirteen events between Friday 25 September and Thursday 1 October, and twelve cost nothing. The one you pay for is the largest Microsoft data conference in Europe, parked at the CCIB for four days. Everything else either warms it up or pointedly ignores it — a very Barcelona way to handle a week of enterprise software.

The big one: FabCon Europe, and the community that got there first

European Microsoft Fabric & SQL Community Conference (FabCon Europe 2026) — Monday 28 September, 09:00, Centre de Convencions Internacional de Barcelona (CCIB), Plaça de Willy Brandt 11-14, Sant Martí. Paid, EUR 1,595.

Europe's largest Microsoft data and AI conference runs four days at the CCIB, opening with a tutorial day on the Monday and more than 130 sessions on Fabric and SQL after it. A training-budget decision rather than an evening out: worth it if your 2027 roadmap already says Fabric, hard to justify if you are curious.

The Barcelona community did not wait for the badge. Power BI & Fabric Barcelona: Pre-FabCon Meetup takes Sunday 27 September at 17:00, La Fabrica & Co, 191 Carrer del Doctor Trueta. Free. The week, day by day

Monday's second room argues with the first. 2016–2026: el Valor de los Datos a lo Largo de Diez Años runs at 17:30 at Espai Francesca Bonnemaison, 7 Carrer de Sant Pere Més Baix. Free. Iniciativa Barcelona Open Data marks ten years with a retrospective on how the value — and the politics — of data have shifted over that decade: the public-interest counterweight to the enterprise stack being demoed across town.

Tuesday is the crowded night, and one of its four rooms has no room. Beyond Cybersecurity Barcelona 2026 opens at 09:00 at DFactory Barcelona in the Zona Franca. Free — a full day from Apolo Cybersecurity pulling security leads, practitioners and vendors into talks plus structured networking, in Spanish. Then the evening splits three ways. Free Webinar: Spec Driven Development + Trust Engineering is online at 18:00, free: Xesca Alabart, CEO of EasySpecs Labs, on writing specifications an agent can actually be held to. Barcelona SaaS Founders Meetup is the first gathering of the Barcelona SaaS Founders Circle — 18:30, la textil collective, Carrer de Casp 33B. Free. Pricing, churn, go-to-market. And 15 Years of Fun: the Kotlin anniversary puts BcnKode in Basetis's offices inside La Pedrera at 18:30 — free, with talks in Spanish on multiplatform, server-side and Android tooling — fifteen years of a language, celebrated inside Gaudí's Casa Milà.

Wednesday has one event, and it is the hardest door of the week.

Petit Comitech: Invirtiendo en IA con Pep Martorell y Luis Pareras (Invivo Partners) — Wednesday 30 September, 09:30. Free, venue on registration. Tech Barcelona and EAE Business School put both Invivo Partners partners in a deliberately small room, exactly a year after they launched the fund, to talk about investing in AI. Petit Comitech means what it says: small-group, in Spanish, and it fills.

Thursday 1 October is the week compressed into one day. FAIR.3 — Work.People.Tech Conference opens it at 09:00 at TBS Education Barcelona, free — Fair Cultures' third future-of-work conference across three stages: People & Culture, HR Infrastructure and AI, and hands-on Labs. Then four evenings start within an hour. Tech Barcelona Afterwork at Pier01 takes the Palau de Mar terrace from 18:00, free and open to the whole community, not just members, with two-minute pitches from member companies. CISO Legal Tech Session #01 — Legal Ops y Legal Tech: el Impacto de la IA en los Equipos Jurídicos opens Talent-R's legal-tech cycle at 18:30 on Rambla de Catalunya 35, free, in Spanish. DevOpsDays BCN Meetup — October 2026 is inside Allianz Technology Spain on Avinguda d'Icària at 18:30, free — two talks and the hallway track. And EdTech Together Barcelona gathers at Educo in Gràcia at 19:00, free, for people building where education meets software.

Who should go where

Builders — Tuesday, by stack: the Kotlin anniversary if you ship mobile, the spec-driven webinar if you are wiring agents into production. Thursday's DevOpsDays is the week's most reliable engineering room.

Founders — Tuesday 18:30 at la textil collective. The first meetup of a founders' circle is the one time you can shape what it becomes, and the topics are the unglamorous stuff that decides a SaaS year.

Investors — Wednesday morning, and there is no second option. Petit Comitech is the only capital conversation on the page, and two partners in a small room beats a panel. Register early; small-group formats close early.

People, talent and HR tech — Thursday, FAIR.3, all day. Three stages, free, and the HR-infrastructure track is the one most conferences skip.

One evening only? Thursday. One morning only? Wednesday.

Two questions we keep getting

Are these events really free?

Twelve of the thirteen are. Check the ticket tier, though: elsewhere on the network this month we found a "free" tier that was approval-only for investors and partners, and corrected our own listing.

Do I need to register, or can I walk in?

Register. Four of Thursday's rooms sit inside company offices — Allianz Technology Spain, Basetis, Talent-R, Educo — and reception works from a list. Bring photo ID matching the name you registered with; one organiser on our network enforced exactly that this month.

Across the network

London has Sifted Summit 2026 on Wednesday 30 September and Thursday 1 October, with a constellation of satellites around it — several sold out or invite-only, so check the gate before booking a flight. Milan has the sharpest pair of rooms outside London: Assolombarda on banks and startups on Friday, its AI-skills research on Monday.

Worth knowing

• Two listings have no venue, for two different reasons. Spec Driven Development + Trust Engineering has none because it is online — join from anywhere. Petit Comitech has none because the address arrives with your confirmation. We will not guess a street for you.
• FabCon does not end on Monday. It runs at the CCIB through Thursday 1 October, so the badge crowd is still in town for Thursday's five free rooms. Hosting anything that night? Expect data people.
• No Catalan-language sessions on the city page this week. Four run in Spanish (Beyond Cybersecurity, the Kotlin anniversary, Petit Comitech and the Talent-R session), the conference layer is in English, Tech Barcelona's afterwork runs in whatever language the table speaks, and Monday's Open Data retrospective has no language recorded at all. The Catalan-language programming we know exists here is not reaching our page yet — that gap is ours, not the scene's.
