Berlin tech events this week: the city would rather argue about AI than demo it

20 tech events in Berlin, 30 Oct-5 Nov: Nullcon runs five days, two Halloween hackathons, and six rooms arguing about who AI is actually for.

Berlin would rather argue about AI than demo it. Of the twenty tech events on the Berlin calendar between 30 October and 5 November, six are built for disagreement: who pays for the models, who owns the data they eat, whether any of it works in Germany. Two more are Halloween hackathons. One is a five-day security conference.

The week ahead, by the argument in the room

Who pays, and whether it works here

After the Crash: Building a Useful Local AI Economy in Germany - Monday 2 November, 19:00, Æthos Station, free to register. Æthos and Solveri on whether Germany's research base, engineering talent and industry can produce AI tools that stay viable once investment turns selective. The premise rebukes the rest of the calendar.

ASQF Quality Day 2026: AI in Quality Assurance - Tuesday 3 November, 10:00, Fraunhofer FOKUS, EUR 100. What happens after the pilot: data quality, process integration, staff acceptance, the business case. In German.

frizzforum meetup: AI & Sustainability - Wednesday 4 November, 14:00, frizzforum, free to register. Four hours on the question most AI strategies skip: what the technology costs environmentally and socially.

Who owns it

Who owns knowledge? Citizen Science, Data, and the future of AI - Wednesday 4 November, 17:45, Museum für Naturkunde, free to register. A role-play workshop from The Data Tank with the European Citizen Science Association, part of Berlin Science Week. Being assigned a position and made to defend it beats a panel where all nod.

AI, Disinformation, and Digital Power - Thursday 5 November, 19:30, ZOiS, free to register. Automated disinformation, synthetic media, algorithmically sorted information spaces, and what they do to democratic debate. Mixed language.

BLISS AI Speaker Series: Human-Like Artificial Intelligence - Tuesday 3 November, 20:00, TU Berlin's Institut für Chemie, free to register. Badr Alkhamissi of EPFL, 45 minutes, on what it would take for artificial systems to think like people. The one talk this week with a paper behind it, and it starts at eight, because Berlin.

What actually gets built

Consumer Robotics Show & Tell - Wednesday 4 November, 19:00, MotionLab.Berlin, free to register. Speedinvest on robots leaving the factory floor for desks and kitchens, now that foundation models and cheap hardware put consumer robotics in reach of small teams.

DeepTech Innovators Bridge 2026 - Thursday 5 November, 19:00, free to register. Six medical-technology AI startups pitch investors and healthcare people under the theme From Tech to Trust, with the Business Angels Club Berlin-Brandenburg. No venue on the listing; registration tells you.

Thursday Gathering #77 - From Molecules to Market - Thursday 5 November, CIC Berlin, free. Venture Café's weekly gathering, this edition built around deep-tech founders out of chemistry and materials labs. Structured networking opens at 17:00 before the 18:00 programme - the part people skip and should not.

Building with less arguing: two hackathons on Halloween Saturday - the GTM Hackathon Berlin, Halloween Edition at Arvana from 12:00 with two tracks, the shorter Halloween Hackathon supported by Lovable from 13:00. Friday night, the Claude Code Workshop at The Delta Campus, 19:00: walk in with an idea, leave with a live site.

Institutional Berlin fills the gaps: Brasil Innovation Day at the Brazilian Embassy in Mitte on Monday from 11:00, Silicon Allee's monthly meetup at St. Oberholz Oranienstraße on Tuesday from 10:00 with no agenda and no pitching, Claude Conversation x Foresight Institute at CIC on Wednesday evening, the Startup Incubator Berlin Demo Day folded into Thursday's Venture Café evening, the Women's AI Breakfast at Merantix AI Campus on Thursday at 10:00, and Qubes OS Summit 2026 at Refugio from Friday.

Who should go where

Founders, Thursday is the whole week. Thursday Gathering #77 if you are deep-tech and need a room that understands lab timelines; DeepTech Innovators Bridge if you are medical AI and want investors in front of you. Monday's After the Crash is the one if you are raising into a selective market.

Investors, Wednesday and Thursday. Consumer Robotics at MotionLab is early-stage hardware you can touch; DeepTech Innovators Bridge is six pitches in an evening. Skip the policy panels unless disinformation is a thesis rather than a worry.

Builders, pick your Halloween hackathon by format, not sponsor: Arvana runs a full day with tracks, Kiez & Kin five hours and expects something shipped. Qubes OS Summit if you care about isolation at the OS layer.

Sales and marketing, thin week. GTM Hackathon Saturday, Silicon Allee Tuesday morning.

Worth knowing

The Berlin University Alliance's "Von der Idee zur Publikation" workshop on 5 November is effectively closed. Registration shut on 15 October, the fifty places are gone, and what is left is a waitlist. We have not listed it.

Demo Day's times disagree with themselves. Our listing starts it at 18:00; the organiser's own copy has two parallel tracks running 17:00 to 20:00. Treat 17:00 as the real door.

Two rows carry no venue - DeepTech Innovators Bridge and the Lovable-backed Halloween Hackathon. Both put the address behind registration.

Nullcon's five days are not one event: training 2 to 4 November, conference 5 and 6. If you only want the talks, your ticket starts Thursday.

Standing caveat: our price field defaults to free when an organiser publishes nothing, so free labels on institutional events are inferred, not confirmed.

Is a closed registration ever worth chasing?

For a capped academic workshop like the Berlin University Alliance one, no - fifty places and a shut form means fifty places. For Venture Café at CIC, yes: Thursday Gathering absorbs walk-ups.

Across the network

Willing to fly: London's week has the Sovereign AI Summit on 2 November, six tracks and a ticket-holders-only awards evening. Sales closed 30 October, so treat it as a next-time note.

Booking further out: the ROBOTICS X AI Hackathon on 21 and 22 November, where Hugging Face now runs its own track around the SO-101 arm and LeRobot, NormaCore has folded in, and registration is open. Thursday Gathering #78 and Industry Meets AI Startups 2026 both land on 12 November. Slush is 18-19 November, Helsinki.

The big one, and it costs

Nullcon Security Conference and Training - Berlin 2026 - from Monday 2 November, Maritim proArte Hotel Berlin, EUR 649. Five days, the fifth Berlin edition: three days of hands-on training, then two conference days on 5 and 6 November, with CTFs in the Flag Arena alongside.

It sits at the end on purpose. Nothing else this week asks for that much money or that many days, and nothing else puts you in a room with people who break things for a living rather than people with opinions about them. If you run anything exposed and have been meaning to find out how exposed, that is what the EUR 649 buys.

Doors at CIC open at 17:00 on Thursday. See you in the lobby - or on the full Berlin listings if your week looks nothing like this one. Send us what we are missing.
