Tech events in Birmingham this week: the city works mornings and evenings (2–8 October 2026)
Nine tech events in Birmingham, 2–8 Oct 2026: Google's free two-day AI Skills Pop-up on Brindley Place, #PBIBRUM, Golang, plus an 08:00 coffee tip.
Nine events made the Birmingham city page this week, and the shape of them is the story: three start at or before 9am, four start from 5pm onwards, and only two happen in between. That's a working city's calendar: tech events in Birmingham get scheduled around real jobs, breakfast before the desk or a meetup after it. Eight of the nine are free. The one that isn't costs £22.38 and comes with lunch.
The early shift: three events that start before you've opened your inbox
Beyond Predictive Maintenance: The Rise of Prognostic Intelligence — Fri 2 Oct, 08:30, Aston Business Hub, free. Where industrial AI goes after predictive maintenance: prognostics, remaining-useful-life modelling, and the data foundations manufacturers need first. Proxima Strategy are running it, and they've given us the detail the listing doesn't carry — attendees gather in the main reception on the ground floor of Aston Business Hub, Woodcock Street, and the team is there from 08:00 with coffee. Half an hour before the start. If you're applying machine learning to physical assets in the Midlands, this is your Friday morning.

Air Evolve Summit 2026 — Tue 6 Oct, 09:00, MTC Events, free. A summit at the Manufacturing Technology Centre on the future of air mobility and aerospace technology in the Midlands. Aerospace is something this region quietly does better than most of the country, and it almost never surfaces on a meetup listing.
And Monday, 08:30, Brindley Place — that one gets its own section further down.
Midday: the two-event gap
She Scales: Female Founders Connection and Co-working — Wed 7 Oct, 10:00, NatWest Accelerator Birmingham, free. Co-working and peer connection for female founders at St Philip's Place. Small-group, and the simplest way into the accelerator's wider Birmingham network without applying to anything.
Tech Founders Lunch Club #5 — Fri 2 Oct, 12:30, The Old Joint Stock Pub & Theatre, £22.38. Fifth edition of a quarterly lunch for Midlands tech founders: small, peer-led, deliberately unstructured. The week's only paid ticket, and the only one where the point is entirely the other people at the table.
After five: four evenings, two of them colliding
Wednesday stacks two free evenings fifteen minutes apart, so pick one. Unlock Your Entrepreneurial Potential Powered by Barclays Eagle Labs (17:30, x+why Foundry) if you're at the getting-started end and want to know what the Eagle Labs network actually offers; #PBIBRUM October meetup with Victor Rivas & Jerome Wittersheim (17:45, Eleven Brindley Place) if you work with data for a living.
Thursday is the better evening. Responsible AI – Turning Principles into Practice. (17:00, Cubo Birmingham, free) has Hays, CGI and Cubo pushing past policy statements into what governance and accountability look like inside an organisation already shipping AI — an unusually senior room for a free city-centre evening. Then Golang Birmingham — October Meetup (18:00, Bluetel Solutions, free): talks and code, no ceremony.
Organiser spotlight: Birmingham Power BI Meetup Group
#PBIBRUM is quietly one of the most reliably well-run data evenings in the city — same community, same cadence, back at the Robert Walters offices at Eleven Brindleyplace with two named speakers on the bill. No sponsor circus, no pitch slots. If you've bounced off the bigger mixers looking for a technical community here, start with this one.
The Big One: Google brings AI training to Brindley Place, free, for two days
Google AI Skills Pop-up - Birmingham — Mon 5 Oct, 08:30, Brindley Place, free.
<img src="https://joezfbehxxpcrpliygvo.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/hero-images/event-birmingham-google-ai-skills-pop-up-birmingham-1005.webp" alt="Google AI Skills Pop-up - Birmingham" class="w-full rounded-lg my-6" loading="lazy" />
Google trainers, working with Screwfix, run a two-day pop-up on how AI tools actually save time in a working business: prompting, automation, which everyday tasks are worth handing over. Free, open to anyone running or working in a business, and it doesn't require you to be a developer, a founder or anybody's customer.
Birmingham does not get many of these. Vendor-led AI training at this scale usually means a London auditorium and a ticket price, and the regional version is often a thinly disguised sales pitch. This one has a retailer's name on it rather than a software licence, which is a meaningfully different thing. Two days also means you can send a colleague on the day you can't make. If you run a small business here and have been putting off working out what AI does for your actual operations, this is the cheapest serious attempt you'll get all month.
Who should go where
Sales and marketing — your week is genuinely good, which is rare. Google's pop-up on Monday is the one: aimed at the everyday-tasks end, and the room will be people who buy things. If you only get one slot, take that over any evening mixer.
Builders — Thursday, twice. Golang Birmingham if you write Go, Responsible AI at Cubo if you're the person who ends up answering the governance questions. Data people: #PBIBRUM Wednesday, no contest.
Founders — Friday lunch at The Old Joint Stock is worth £22.38 if you're past the earliest stage and want peers rather than programmes. Earlier than that, Barclays Eagle Labs on Wednesday evening is free and honest about what it is. Female founders: She Scales Wednesday morning, plus the 14 October Barclays Eagle Labs x WITBHAM session just outside this window.
Investors — thin. No pitch night, no demo day. The Friday founders' lunch is the closest thing and it isn't built for you. Hold your diary for the 19th.
A first-timer's note
Three of this week's venues are working corporate offices — Eleven Brindleyplace, x+why Foundry, Cubo. If a venue is a company office, bring photo ID in the name you booked under; reception increasingly checks. And "doors" and "start" are different things our listings rarely both hold. Friday's 08:30 session has people there from 08:00. Arrive on the organiser's doors time, not ours.
Worth knowing
- Women in Tech Birmingham has moved its October session. Claire Mironik mailed all registrants: the 12 October date is now Alpha Tower, 22nd Floor, Suffolk Street Queensway, B1 1TT, not Millennium Point. Nothing else changed. That's next week — but if you booked early, your confirmation names the wrong building.
- Treat our "tickets available" labels as unverified. A known ingest fault normalises sold-out and waitlist states back to "available", so an open-looking listing proves nothing. Register now rather than assuming there's room on the door.
- Diarise 19–23 October. Birmingham Tech Week's main and fringe programme has landed in full for the first time: the week of the 19th now carries 38 city-page events, up from 14. FabFest 2026 hits Millennium Point on the 15th. And if you're booking the Opening Tech Social on the 19th, the address is BOX, 1-2 The Waters Edge, Brindley Place, B1 2HL — we carried B1 2JB from a crawl until the organiser's own confirmation arrived.
That's the nine. Everything else is on the Birmingham listings page — and if you run something here we've missed, send it over. This city's calendar is growing faster than any scraper keeps up with, and the gaps get filled by the people who tell us.
