Birmingham tech events this week: eight rooms, and the week starts Tuesday lunchtime

Eight Birmingham tech events, 6-12 Nov 2026: Rosie Ginday MBE at Aston, a Mastercard fintech afternoon that needs a caveat, and a four-way Wednesday.

A Mastercard-badged afternoon landed on our Birmingham tech events page on Tuesday, a week before it runs. Mastercard Fintech Roadshow UK - Tue 10 Nov, 13:15 to 16:30, University of Birmingham, and the room is the Green Heart Forum in Staff House, which our row does not say. Mastercard hosts it. That is the shape of the thing: the sections on Mastercard's own capabilities are the host selling, and FinTech West is a partner rather than the organiser. What buys the three hours is everyone else in the room: fintech founders, the regional fintech associations, policymakers.

Eight events in the week ahead and nothing at all before Tuesday lunchtime. Last week four of six started before 10am. This week five of eight start after five.

The Big One: Rosie Ginday at Aston, Wednesday evening

In Conversation with Rosie Ginday MBE - Wed 11 Nov, 17:30 to 19:30, John Cadbury House, Aston University, Corporation Street, free.

<img src="https://joezfbehxxpcrpliygvo.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/hero-images/event-birmingham-in-conversation-with-rosie-ginday-mbe-1111.webp" alt="In Conversation with Rosie Ginday MBE at John Cadbury House, Aston University" class="w-full rounded-lg my-6" loading="lazy" />

Ginday is founder and CEO of Miss Macaroon. Professor Paula Whitehouse, who directs Aston's Centre for Enterprise and Entrepreneurship, is in the chair.

The format is why it tops the week. Birmingham gets plenty of panels where four people agree for an hour. It gets far fewer rooms where one founder works through how a business actually got built, in order, with an interviewer whose day job is teaching people to do it. One chair also means the questions come from the floor rather than a moderator's card.

It is for anyone pre-revenue or newly trading who wants a founder's sequencing instead of their highlights. Investors and agency people will get less out of it.

The week ahead, by what the room wants from you

A programme, a badge and a daytime.

RESMAG26 - Wed 11 Nov, 10:00, STEAMhouse, £50. The annual UK conference for rehabilitation engineers, clinical scientists and clinical technologists, in its second year. It is the only price on the page we can stand behind, and the only room aimed at a profession rather than a sector. If clinical engineering is not your market, this is fifty pounds for someone else's conference.

marketingSHOWCASE Birmingham - Thu 12 Nov, 10:00 to 14:00, Edgbaston Stadium, free. A half-day of martech built on a format the organisers call 5inTwenty: twenty minutes a speaker, and the challenge is what they fit into it. Edgbaston is a couple of miles out of the centre, so plan the journey rather than the walk.

And the Mastercard roadshow above, Tuesday from 13:15.

A conversation.

Birmingham Entrepreneurs Meetup Group - Tue 10 Nov, 18:30, 1000 Trades, Jewellery Quarter, free. A long-running monthly for founders and people still at the idea stage, upstairs in the front room. No set format. Plus Rosie Ginday at Aston, Wednesday at 17:30.

A laptop and a question.

.NET Conf 2026 at Birmingham .NET & MAUI Group - Wed 11 Nov, 18:30, Bluetel Solutions, free. The group picks sessions from .NET Conf 2026 around the .NET 11 launch and the latest MAUI release, watches them together and argues about them. The alternative is the livestream alone at your desk.

Our Friends Electric - Wed 11 Nov, 18:30 to 20:30, fizzPOP Makerspace, Coventry Street, free. fizzPOP turns its second-Wednesday open night into a software and microelectronics social. A working session rather than a talks night.

DevOps Society: The Human API Workshop - Thu 12 Nov, 18:00 to 21:00, AND Digital, Brindley Place, free. Steve Wade runs the evening as three acts rather than a speaker line-up: three hours on the human side of platform work, which in a DevOps room is usually the part that breaks.

New to this? Start at 1000 Trades or fizzPOP

Two of this week's rooms are the easiest places in Birmingham to turn up on your own. The Entrepreneurs Meetup has no programme - people arrive from 18:30, upstairs at the front of 1000 Trades, and the conversation is whatever the table is working on. Idea-stage counts; nobody will ask for your traction. fizzPOP is the same bargain with soldering irons, where "what are you making?" does the introducing. Arrive in the first half hour at either.

By the numbers

Eight events, all between Tuesday lunchtime and Thursday night. Six read as free, one is £50, and one carries no price at all - the Mastercard roadshow has neither badge, because nothing was published. Our price column writes "free" when an organiser supplies nothing, so treat the six as free to register and check before you travel. Wednesday holds four of the eight. Saturday and Sunday hold nothing, the third Birmingham weekend running our page has been empty.

Who should go where

Builders, this is your week. Three free technical evenings in four days is a strong Birmingham return. The only decision is Wednesday night: .NET Conf at Bluetel or fizzPOP on Coventry Street - watch-and-argue against build-and-ask. Then Thursday's Human API Workshop at AND Digital, which asks for three hours and earns them.

Founders, Wednesday at 17:30. Rosie Ginday at Aston is the only founder-to-founder room on the page, it is free, and it finishes early enough to get home. If you are earlier than that, Tuesday upstairs at 1000 Trades.

Sales and marketing, Thursday morning. marketingSHOWCASE is free, and the twenty-minute format means you leave at 14:00 with something written down. The only marketing room in the city this week.

Investors, a second quiet week. No pitch night, no demo day, nothing where founders present. The Mastercard afternoon is the one place fintech founders gather in any number, and it runs Tuesday afternoon rather than evening. Hold the diary for later in the month.

Worth knowing

The Mastercard roadshow only reached our page on Tuesday 3 November, a week before it runs, and it is the one call this week that needed arguing about. It is corporate-hosted and part of the agenda is a product pitch. It stays because the other half of the room - founders, the regional fintech associations and policymakers together - is hard to get in the Midlands, and because a Birmingham reader can judge it once someone says which half is which.

Our row gives the venue as "University of Birmingham" and that will not find you the room. It is the Green Heart Forum in Staff House. The event also has no stored price of any kind, so there is nothing for us to quote: register and see.

Wednesday is a four-way. RESMAG26 runs through the day at STEAMhouse, then Aston at 17:30 and two 18:30s on opposite sides of the centre. Aston finishes at 19:30, so Aston plus a late arrival at fizzPOP is the only pairing that works. Everything else is a straight choice.

December, and one ask

Just past this window: the CreaTech Freelancer Forum at BOM on Fri 13 Nov, Startup Social West Midlands and She Scales on Tue 17 Nov, all free. Next week is bigger.

December is where our page gets thin, and three sweeps running have come back with the same answer, which makes us want a second opinion. Running something in the city before Christmas? Send it and we will carry it. Everything we hold is at anopenroom.com/birmingham.
