Tech events in Bristol this week: a shorter list, on purpose (16-22 October 2026)
Bristol tech events 16-22 Oct: Demo Night Bristol leads, a SETsquared pitch workshop two days before it, and a city page we deliberately cut in half.
Tech events in Bristol this week: a shorter list, on purpose (16-22 October 2026)
Last Friday we listed twenty-eight tech events in Bristol. This Friday we are listing eleven, and Bristol has not gone quiet. On 14 October our run went back through every city-page event in the next fortnight and cut it roughly in half: twenty-two rooms came off as vendor funnels, paid courses, author evenings and general business networking; nineteen were kept and given an actual reason to go. So this is a breather week in the honest sense - one proper main event, a run of dependable regulars, and the first week since September with room left in your diary.
The main event is two events, two days apart
Tuesday is the rehearsal. Pitch with Confidence: Mindset, Presence and Performance - Tue 20 Oct, 14:00, Sloane Robinson Building, free, from SETsquared Bristol, featured. Two hours on delivery rather than content: presence and poise, using your voice, managing nerves, and preparing mentally and physically before you stand up. Most pitch training in this city is about the deck. This one is not.
Wednesday is the performance. Demo Night Bristol - Wed 21 Oct, 16:00, Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus, free, from Canopy Community, featured, and the week's Big One. Early-stage founders get five minutes to pitch and five minutes of questions and feedback from a panel, and the audience votes for the Canopy People's Choice Award.

Rehearse Tuesday, pitch Wednesday. Nobody planned that pairing, and it is the best two-day run Bristol has offered a first-time pitcher in weeks. Note the clock: 16:00 is early for a demo night, so book the afternoon rather than the evening.
The rest of the week, by how much of your day it wants
Walk in, nothing asked of you. Two Friday rooms want only a laptop. Casual co-working morning @Watershed Cafe/Bar - Fri 16, 09:30, Watershed, free - is Bristol Co-Workers' weekly answer to working alone. Open Studio Friday - Fri 16, 10:00, Pervasive Media Studio, free - opens the Studio's first-floor space so anyone can hot desk, make a drink in the kitchenette and talk to the resident teams. New to our page, and the lowest-friction way into Bristol's creative-tech end that exists.
An hour, over lunch. The Knot Makers - Fri 16, 13:00, Pervasive Media Studio, free - is a talk about a multi-sensory installation built around the xeedho, the critically endangered Somali nomadic wedding basket. No other city on our list runs this room.
Two hours, hands on. Grow your Sales: Tell Your Business Story - Thu 22, 10:00, NatWest Entrepreneur Accelerator, free - builds the artefacts early-stage businesses get asked for and rarely have ready: a 60-second pitch, a one-page summary of what you do and why it matters. Unglamorous, and the reason half of Wednesday's room will sound better than the other half. Hack Night - Tue 20, 18:15, DeskLodge House, free - is CodeHub Bristol's fortnightly working session: bring what you are building, alone or paired; beginners pick up coding challenges.
Four hours, and a soldering iron. Sonic Refunct - Sat 17, 12:00, Bristol Hackspace, GBP 20 - the only paid room of the week and the one we would defend hardest. Repair Acts on repairing and modifying the ghetto blaster: Bluetooth upgrades, tape and playback-speed modifications, and the research behind it. A quiet week is exactly when you do the thing that takes four hours.

An evening with a programme, and one breakfast. umBristol Talks - October 2026 - Wed 21, 18:00, Runway East Bristol Bridge, free - is two talks for people who build on Umbraco, with Carl Sargunar on observability: telemetry that catches problems before release and gives AI coding agents enough signal to work with. AI-Powered Delivery: Building Fast, Building Right - Thu 22, 18:00, Lost & Found Bristol, free - is Software Crafters Bristol on where AI speeds teams up and where it quietly adds risk. And October Innovation Breakfast - Thu 22, 08:30, Runway East, free - is New Icon's monthly drop-in, built around the problems in the room rather than a talk from the front.
Venue corner: the Watershed first floor
Three of this week's eleven rooms sit in one building on one Friday: cafe-bar at 09:30, open studio from 10:00, lunchtime talk at 13:00. Arrive at half nine with a laptop and leave at two having worked, met the Studio's residents and heard a talk about a Somali wedding basket, for nothing.
Across the network: a Bristol organiser, in London
Two weeks ago we flagged that FinTech West's FCA session had moved out of Bristol. It lands Thursday: FCA Innovation Services: What's Changed and What's Next - Thu 22, 08:00, Howden UK Group, free - a Bristol organiser running a room on a London page. In regulated fintech? Worth the early train. See the London week.
Who should go where
Investors, you have one room and it is Wednesday. Demo Night Bristol is the only listing this week tagged for you: five-minute pitches, a panel seat if you want one, a campus full of early-stage founders. Nothing else, and we would rather say so than send you to a mixer.
Founders - Tuesday and Wednesday as a pair, plus Thursday morning at the NatWest Accelerator if your one-pager does not exist. Skip the general drop-ins this week: three structured sessions beat three conversations.
Builders - one of three, not all three. Tuesday's Hack Night for hands on keyboard, Wednesday's umBristol Talks if you work in Umbraco, Thursday's Software Crafters panel if you are the one being asked to approve agent-written code.
Sales and marketing - Thursday, 10:00, the NatWest Accelerator. That is the week, and it is a good one.
Worth knowing
- Two Runway Easts in three days, and no public calendar behind either. Wednesday's umBristol Talks is at Runway East Bristol Bridge; Thursday's breakfast lists "Runway east". Runway East publishes no public events calendar we can reach, so its Bristol rooms only arrive here because an organiser tells us. If you run something there, we will not find it on our own.
- Read our prices as ceilings. A figure taken off a ticketing page is usually fee-inclusive rather than the organiser's face price. Saturday's GBP 20 is round, which is a good sign; anything ending in pence is not a face price. And our "available" labels are unverified - the ingest flattens sold-out and waitlist states back to available.
- November, so you can plan. BRAZEN 2026 is on techSPARK's calendar for 9-13 November, with no session times published yet - so we are listing no sessions. Hold the week; we will fill it in when the programme lands.
Before you go
Eleven rooms, ten of them free. Seventeen fewer than last Friday, and that is a decision rather than a drought. The rest is on the Bristol listings page. This is the week to tell us what we are missing - a short page is an easy page to spot gaps in - and if something you run came off it and you think that was wrong, say so. We would rather argue about one room than quietly carry forty.
