Tech events in Bristol this week: a studio, a science park and a law firm (2–8 October 2026)

Twelve Bristol tech events, 2–8 Oct 2026: GDG on autonomous AI agents, an agri-tech cluster meetup, PitchMe!

You can read Bristol's tech scene off the venue list. This week's twelve events happen in a Watershed studio, an architecture centre, a bank's early-careers hub, a science park, a business school, a law firm, an accelerator, three coworking spaces, an address on Monmouth Hill — and one with no address at all, because it's online. Networking events in Bristol don't cluster in a single glass tower the way they do elsewhere. Forty-nine sit on the site this week; twelve clear the bar for the city page, and these are the twelve.

Studios first: the creative end of the week

Lunchtime Talk: Inhabiting Strange Lives — Fri 2 Oct, 13:00, Pervasive Media Studio, free. Immersive storyteller Dominique Vyborna on building believable characters — how one is written, performed and inhabited when the audience is inside the story.

Skills Fest Bristol (pm) — Sat 3 Oct, afternoon, Lloyds Banking Group Harbourside, free. Lloyds' skills festival for early-career talent. No start time was captured — the "(pm)" is all we can stand behind, so treat it as an afternoon and take the hour from the organiser's page.

The Big One: autonomous agents, properly, on a Saturday afternoon

Designing Autonomous AI Agents for Complex Workflows — Sat 3 Oct, 14:00, Design West, free.

Google Developer Group Bristol, led by Mohammad Alamin: an architecture-first session on production-grade autonomous agents — single- versus multi-agent designs, deterministic orchestration trade-offs, state and memory, secure integration with backend APIs.

That reads like a conference track, not a meetup, which is the point. Most agent sessions this year have been demos: someone wires up a tool-calling loop on stage and everyone claps. This one starts from the awkward part — what breaks when the agent has to be correct, auditable and wired into a real database. Free, and in an architecture centre rather than a vendor's office.

Midweek: campuses, clusters and the science-park crowd

SDE Nexus Event - October 2026 — Tue 6 Oct, 09:30, Bristol & Bath Science Park, free. A networking morning on uncrewed and autonomous systems, with a defence and engineering crowd that rarely surfaces on open listings.

Enterprise Engine Launch: Powering Growth & Innovation — Wed 7 Oct, UWE Bristol, Bristol Business School, free. UWE launches Enterprise Engine, its new innovation and growth programme — the one moment such a programme says plainly what it will and won't do for you. No start time was captured: the listing has the day, not the hour.

Agri-tech Cluster Meetup — Thu 8 Oct, Monmouth Hill, free. Future Space convening regional growers, researchers and startups working on food and farming tech. Very Bristol: the climate conversation here arrives attached to something you can eat. The day is confirmed, the start time isn't — check the listing.

Wednesday in the accelerators and coworking spaces

Buy and build: How to grow your business through acquisition (08:30, Square Works, free) is the list's oddity — growth by buying other companies, which this calendar almost never touches. She Scales: Women Founder Networking at the NatWest Accelerator is free and practical, women founders on the mechanics of scaling; no start time on the listing, so check first. The Dopamine Lab: ADHD Founders Club - Free Workshop at Origin Workspace (13:00, free) is Ellie Starkwood's taster on spending more of the day in work that moves the business forward.

The paid one: Superconnector Live – The Art of Connection in the Age of AI (09:30, Temple Studios, £75) — Ash Phillips, fourteen years building Rebel Meetups into a 23,000-member community across 30-plus cities, on deliberate network-building. Half a day, priced like the workshop it is.

The formal end: a law firm, and a room that isn't one

The South West Fraud Forum - Autumn 2026 Conference — Thu 8 Oct, VWV, £146.96. A full day on fraud, financial crime and the technology used against them: the week's priciest ticket, its most specialised room. No start time captured — schedule from the organiser.

PitchMe! — Thu 8 Oct, 12:30, free. techSPARK's session where South West founders pitch to investors and operators. No venue on this listing because there isn't one: it runs online, hence lunchtime.

Last week, briefly

The Bristol SME Defence Network held its inaugural meeting at Future Space on Tuesday — a new forum for regional SMEs in defence and dual-use tech. What that means for this week: Tuesday's SDE Nexus morning targets nearly the same room, so a second run at those people arrives within eight days. Elsewhere, Professor Tilo Burghardt filled Wills Memorial on computer vision applied to wildlife, and Open Rights Group took on predictive policing in Avon and Somerset. Bristol's AI conversation keeps pulling towards consequences; Saturday's GDG session is the engineering-side counterpart.

Why do some Bristol listings show no start time?

Because none was ever published where we could read it. Five of the twelve — Skills Fest, She Scales, Enterprise Engine, the agri-tech meetup and the Fraud Forum — arrived with no hour attached, and three are spotlights. We could guess; we'd rather say the day is solid and the hour isn't ours. Spot a time we're missing? Send it and we'll fix it.

Who should go where

Builders — Saturday, no contest: the GDG agents session at Design West is the best technical value in the city this week. If autonomous systems are more your thing than software agents, add Tuesday's SDE Nexus morning.

Founders — Wednesday is your day and it's crowded. Buy and Build at 08:30 if you're thinking about acquisition, She Scales if you want peers, the Dopamine Lab taster if the problem is your working week rather than the market. Pay for Superconnector Live only if network-building is the real bottleneck.

Investors — thin but specific: PitchMe! on Thursday lunchtime, online and free. Then UWE's Enterprise Engine launch: new university programmes are where next year's spinouts stand right now.

Worth knowing

  • One event has left the city. FinTech West's "FCA: What's Changed and What's Next" has moved from Bristol to London, so it isn't on our list. If it's in your diary as a Bristol date, it isn't one.
  • Our "tickets available" labels are unverified. A known ingest fault normalises sold-out and waitlist states back to "available", so an open-looking listing proves nothing. Register early.
  • Corporate venues want ID. Lloyds Harbourside, VWV and the NatWest Accelerator are working offices — book in the name on your photo ID, and bring it.
  • Coming up, and this one's ours. Science Creates is launching Coalesce, a six-weekly deep-tech mixer — first edition 15 October at the 1023 Bar in its Old Market incubator, biotech, quantum, materials and AI in one room. It appears on no aggregator we can find. Also: Qiskit Fall Fest at HH Wills Physics Laboratory on the 12th, and Fabric Agentic AI for BI at iO Associates on the 14th.

Twelve events, several venues you've probably never been inside, one that doesn't exist. The rest is on the Bristol listings page — and if you run something here we've missed, tell us. Half of this list arrived by email from someone we'd overlooked.
