Tech events in Bristol this week: Avonmouth, SAML and a sold-out Thursday
Twelve Bristol tech events, 23–29 Oct: Voices of Avonmouth, OWASP on SAML, Ferryx demoing at Future Space, and an AI Ethics night that's already sold out.
On Friday afternoon, in one room on Watershed's first floor, Judith Aston will explain how you make interactive and spatial storytelling with a community instead of about one. Voices of Avonmouth is an hour long, free, and the most Bristol thing on the calendar: a port-side neighbourhood, a researcher who has been at it for years, and no attempt to turn it into a product. It's also one of only two tech events in Bristol before Tuesday.

Twelve events in the week ahead, lopsided: Friday, a dead weekend, then nine crammed into Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The clocks go back on Sunday the 25th, so every evening start from Tuesday happens in the dark. Times are Bristol local.
Friday 23
Casual co-working morning @Watershed starts at 09:30, free, run by Bristol Co-Workers. Scale check: this is a couple of people with laptops and coffee, not a room. That's the point of it. Then Voices of Avonmouth at 13:00 at Pervasive Media Studio.
Tuesday 27
Fund Your Business Your Way: Financials for Funding — 10:00, NatWest Accelerator Hub, free. Session five of the six-part Funding Accelerator, and the one about the numbers: which metrics make a business fundable and how to present them.
Be found by AI: how to win in the age of AIO & GEO — 12:00, Future Space, free. One hour on how ChatGPT and Google's AI Overview decide what to say about your company. If your inbound has quietly dried up this year, this is the hour that explains it.
OWASP Bristol: Glyn Wintle on SAML — 18:00, Prologue Works, free. Wintle is co-founder and CTO of the UK security consultancy Tradecraft, and the talk is how the protocol works, how it gets attacked in the wild, and what actually holds. The chapter is new to our listings; 23 people were in as of this week, so there's room.
Wednesday 28
Three at once, all free, all 18:00-ish. Mindstone Bristol October AI Meetup at Origin Workspace: three talks — one build story, one demo, one wider take — then pizza and drinks. Cowork Cafe at Replay Bristol Board Game Bar is three hours of quiet laptop time for people making games, a better pitch than it sounds. Peer Support on Data Science & ML Topics at DeskLodge House, 18:30, is a working session rather than a talks night: bring the module or the model that isn't behaving.
Thursday 29
The busiest day of the week. Trust & Growth Circle opens at 09:30 — a facilitated founder peer circle run by for the FOUNDERS, £65.71 for non-members, out at the Lexus site in Patchway rather than anywhere central. Check the price and the postcode before you commit.
Catalyst Event: small business meet-up with Enterprise Nation — 10:00, NatWest Accelerator Hub, free, hosted by Dan Martin. You bring a live business problem and the room works on it with you. Turning up without one is fine.
Bristol AI Ethics — 18:00 at Torchbox, free, and sold out. More on that below.
The one to clear your diary for
Trailblazer Spotlight Evening: Ferryx — Thursday 29, 16:00, Future Space, free.
Future Space puts one resident company on stage per edition: founder insight, the behind-the-scenes story, a live product demo. This one is Ferryx, a health-tech company. It beats a pitch night if you want to understand how a deep-tech company gets from lab to product — you get the awkward middle years, not the polished slide.

Theme of the week: AI, argued three ways
Three rooms take the same subject from three directions in four days. Tuesday lunchtime is AI as a distribution problem — whether models can find you at all. Wednesday evening is AI as a build problem — what people shipped. Thursday evening is AI as a consequences problem. Nobody coordinated this; it's what happens when a city has enough communities that they stop duplicating each other.
Last week, briefly
SETsquared ran pitch coaching on Tuesday at the Sloane Robinson Building, and Demo Night Bristol followed on Wednesday at Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus — five-minute pitches, five minutes of panel questions, audience vote for the Canopy People's Choice. Coaching one day, pitching the next, which is not a coincidence. Missed it? Thursday's Ferryx demo is the nearest thing this week, and SETsquared's Tech-Xpo lands on 3 November.
Who should go where
Builders — Tuesday night at OWASP, then Wednesday wherever your stack lives. The SAML talk is the most technically specific hour in Bristol this week, and the DeskLodge peer-support session is the one that fixes your actual problem rather than describing someone else's.
Founders — Thursday morning. Enterprise Nation with a real problem in hand beats three evenings of mingling. If you're raising, Tuesday's financials session first.
Investors — a thin week. Ferryx on Thursday at 16:00 is the only room where you'll see a product running.
Sales and marketing — Tuesday lunchtime, Future Space. One hour, and it's about whether anyone can find you in an AI answer. Skip the rest.
Worth knowing
- Bristol AI Ethics on Thursday is sold out, with nine people on the waitlist. Our page shows it as bookable because the site has no way to store sold-out status yet — that fact only lives in the event description. Join the waitlist rather than turning up hopeful.
- BRAZEN 2026, Bristol's own tech festival, runs 9–13 November and isn't showing on our Bristol page. That's our bug, not a quiet year. Two events already name it as their anchor: Conversations on AI: Can Bristol Shape AI for Good? at KPMG's Queen Square office, 10 November, pay what you can, and Claude Have Mercy with Kester Brewin of the Institute for the Future of Work at Dareshack the same evening.
- Engine Shed is open and hosting. We had it recorded as closed since July. It isn't — People & Culture in an AI Age is there on 4 November, Station Approach, confirmed on the organiser's own page.
- Playtest Party on 5 November is cancelled — Meetup says so, and it was live on our page until this week. The series is fine; the 26 November anniversary edition is on.
A sold-out event still shows a register button — why?
Our availability field has no write path yet, so a sell-out can only be recorded in the description text. Until that's fixed, read the description before you trust the button.
Can I just walk into the Friday sessions at Watershed?
Mostly yes — the Pervasive Media Studio talks are free and the co-working morning is deliberately casual. Register if there's a link anyway. It's one room on the first floor, and the Studio team likes knowing how many chairs to put out.

Birmingham just finished Tech Week — five days, 35-plus events — and its week after is seven events, with BrumAI at University College Birmingham already waitlisted at 80. Browse Birmingham.
