Tech events in Bristol this week: everything we promised, plus a ship (9-15 October 2026)
Twenty-eight Bristol tech events, 9-15 Oct 2026: autonomous ship rules aboard the MV Balmoral, Qiskit Fall Fest, and four meetups in one building.
Tech events in Bristol this week: everything we promised, plus a ship (9-15 October 2026)
Last Friday we signed off with three Bristol events that had surfaced on no aggregator we could find: Science Creates' new Coalesce mixer, Qiskit Fall Fest at the physics labs, Data Bristol's agentic-AI night. All three land this week, with twenty-five others. That is twenty-eight tech events in Bristol on our city page between Friday 9 and Thursday 15 October, twenty-four free: the fullest week we have run here, and the first in a month with no listing missing a venue or price.
The Big One is a Monday evening, and it sits at the bottom of this post.
Friday and Saturday: repair, and a conference that fits in one room
WEBDEVCONF 2026 - Fri 9 Oct, 08:45, Watershed, £99. Bristol's longest-running web conference, 17th edition: one day, one track, six talks and two lightning talks, capped at around 100 people, Josh Tumath among the speakers. One track is the selling point - nobody spends the day choosing rooms.
Same building, free: Casual co-working morning @Watershed Cafe/Bar, 09:30, Bristol Co-Workers against the solitude of remote work.
Lunchtime Talk: Situating Repair Cultures - Fri 9 Oct, 13:00, Pervasive Media Studio, free. Teresa Dillon and Felipe Schmidt Fonseca of the artist-led research programme Repair Acts, on their methods and on co-writing local Repair Declarations with citizen bodies.

Saturday has one room: Impact in Action: Business School Insights in the Real World - 15:00, Sloane Robinson Building, free, at the University of Bristol's new Temple Quarter campus. Sunday is empty; take it.
Monday: quantum on campus
Qiskit Fall Fest - Mon 12 Oct, 17:00, School of Physics, HH Wills Physics Laboratory, free. Four student-hosted quantum computing sessions with IBM Quantum. Undergraduates teaching quantum programming says more about this city's next five years than most funding announcements. Later and lighter: HUM4NS Talks Bristol 2026 (19:00, The Square Club, free).
Tuesday: money, then pints
Three free daytime sessions that stack. Fund Your Business Your Way: Founder's Guide to Equity (10:00, NatWest Entrepreneur Accelerator) covers the instruments and what a round does to a cap table; Investment Readiness (12:45, Future Space) is the diligence and governance side of it; and From scattered tactics to a high-performing sales engine (12:30, S&W, EQ Building) brings Ryan Hall of Friday Solved back to Bristol Creative Industries after a packed-out March keynote.
Evening, pick one: ISEP x People Planet Pint (18:00, Watershed Cafe & Bar, no pitches), Entrepreneurs Circle (18:30, Ruby Jeans on the Parade) or the South West Data Social (19:00, The Watershed), a bar night with no talks at all. All free.
Wednesday: four meetups, one building
The busiest night of the week, most of it inside DeskLodge House: Workshop Wednesdays (18:00, Women's Tech Hub's fortnightly study and careers session), Oct 2026 - Practical Claude (18:00, Bristol AI Automations - mingle, then demos), Peer Support on any Data Science Machine Learning Topics (18:30, roundtable and member tool demos) and PHPSW's JJ: Another way to git (18:30, Oliver Davies on Jujutsu, which rethinks rewriting history and splitting commits). All free, one staircase.
Elsewhere that evening: Fabric Agentic AI for BI and (tbc) (18:00, iO Associates, free) from Data Bristol, and the BioUK South West Showcase (17:30, Future Space, free), launching the South West Health and Life Sciences Cluster Report with a panel and ten rapid-fire slots. A Tour of The Sheds Facilities (14:00, free) gets you inside Bristol Digital Futures Institute and MyWorld. One to read twice: THE DEVELOPERS NETWORK BRISTOL (17:30, The Clifton Club, £30) is Fairholm Developments' network - check it means your kind of developer.
Thursday: deep tech twice
Hiring & Team Decisions in Deep Tech - 14:30, Science Creates Old Market, free. Alan Furley of ISL Talent on the hire that breaks a founder network: the first commercial lead into a technical business. Then Coalesce | Deep Tech Mixer @ 1023 Bar - 16:30, same address, free, the first of six-weekly mixers opening its bar to founders, researchers and postgraduates.
Daytime, free: Talent Leaders Bristol Lunch & Learn (09:00, The Radnor Rooms) and the eBay Business Seller Meet-Up (12:00, Full Circle @Docklands). Two paid Thursday rooms carry clocks we do not trust - see below.
The Big One: autonomous ships, argued aboard one
Engineering On Tap Presents: Regulations of Autonomous Maritime Systems - Mon 12 Oct, 18:15, MV Balmoral, free, from the IMarEST and RINA Western Joint Branch.
<img src="https://joezfbehxxpcrpliygvo.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/hero-images/event-bristol-engineering-on-tap-presents-regulations-of-autonomous-maritime-systems-1012.webp" alt="Engineering On Tap: Regulations of Autonomous Maritime Systems aboard the MV Balmoral, Bristol harbour" class="w-full rounded-lg my-6" loading="lazy" />
The regulatory framework for uncrewed vessels, delivered on a ship in the harbour. It goes last because it is the week's least fashionable room and its most instructive. Autonomy arguments here usually happen at an AI meetup, where the hard part is the model. Aboard the Balmoral it is the rulebook. Dress for a boat.
By the numbers
Twenty-eight events, twenty-four free, four paid from £30 to £99. Busiest night Wednesday with nine, seven starting between 17:30 and 18:30. Sunday empty, Saturday one.
Organiser spotlight: Science Creates
Thursday's two deep-tech rooms are both theirs and deliberately sequenced - training at 14:30, mixer at 16:30, so you can stay for both. Coalesce runs six-weekly from here, making Old Market the city's most dependable deep-tech date.
Who should go where
Founders - Tuesday is your block: equity at the NatWest Accelerator, then Investment Readiness at Future Space if you are raising inside two quarters. Thursday's Science Creates pair if you are deep tech. Skip the speed-networking end of the week; the calendar is too good for strangers and a timer.
Builders - Wednesday at DeskLodge House, and you can only have one of the four: PHPSW on Jujutsu for a changed workflow, the DS/ML peer session if you want your own problem looked at. Monday's Qiskit Fall Fest is the only free route into quantum tooling.
Investors - thin but specific. Wednesday's BioUK showcase puts the regional health and life sciences cluster, its report and ten pitches in one room; Thursday's Coalesce mixer is the other one worth an evening.
Sales and marketing - Tuesday 12:30, Ryan Hall at Bristol Creative Industries, free. That is the week in one room.
Worth knowing
- Two Thursday listings show a 00:00 start. They are not midnight events. Connections That Matter at Zerodegrees (£33.22) and the Knightstone AI Masterclass at Almondsbury Interchange (£50) carry a midnight-class timestamp - a fault at our end, the same one that stored the Catalyst meet-up with Enterprise Nation at midnight when it really runs 10:00-12:00. Day and venue are solid; take the hour from the organiser.
- It is otherwise a clean week. All twenty-eight rows have a venue and every paid row a price - not true since the summer, mostly because organisers emailed us.
- One building, four doors. DeskLodge House means four groups sharing a stairwell at 18:00 and 18:30. iO Associates, S&W and the NatWest Accelerator are working offices: bring ID in the name you booked under.
Before you go
Twenty-eight rooms, one of them floating. The rest is on the Bristol listings page. If you run something we have not got, send it over - three of this week's best came that way.
