Dublin tech events this week: 390 people wanted Wednesday, and nobody is telling you about Friday
Dublin tech events 11-17 Sep: nine events, all free.
On Wednesday evening, 390 people registered for a free developer meetup in Dublin, the door closed, and twenty more joined a waitlist. On Friday morning, a hackathon with $1,000 in prizes runs at Dogpatch Labs and we cannot give you a link, because the registration URL never resolved into a public page. Both true, same week, same small city.
That is the shape of tech events in Dublin right now: demand piling onto a handful of recognisable names while genuinely good rooms go unlisted. Nine events on our board between Friday and Thursday. All nine are free. Four have no venue at all, because they happen at a desk.
The Big One: AI where being wrong is expensive
Beyond the Prompt: AI for a Sustainable Built Environment runs Monday 14 September from 08:15, in the Concert Hall at TU Dublin Grangegorman, free, hosted by TU Dublin.
It puts architects, engineers and data people in one room on applying AI to buildings and infrastructure: energy modelling, retrofit decisions, design workflows, with the emphasis on what actually works. That mix is the point. Most AI evenings here are software people talking to software people about software. This one puts the modellers in front of the people who sign off a retrofit, in a sector where a confident wrong answer becomes a building.
It is also the earliest thing on the board by a distance, doors from quarter past eight on a Monday, which filters for people who came to work rather than to be seen. Free, on a university campus, and the highest-scoring event on our Dublin board this week.

Tuesday 15 September, 17:30 — Follow the Money: The Savings & Investment Union's Impact on Women at A&L Goodbody LLP, free. A legal and policy panel on the EU Savings and Investment Union and women's participation in capital markets. In a city built on fund administration, a room where the regulation gets argued rather than complained about earns an evening.
Wednesday 16 September, 18:00 — BrowserStack QA Meetup Dublin at Workday, free: test strategy and automation at scale, with the turnout this series pulls from the city's larger employers. The most reliably useful in-person technical evening of the week.

The silly name hides the best-designed session of the week: the new search capabilities demonstrated against a real workload rather than a toy dataset. Anyone who has watched a vendor demo collapse the moment the data has duplicates will appreciate the difference.
Thursday 17 September, 18:00 — Enterprise AI Infrastructure in 2026: A Reality Check for Platform Engineers, free, online, on what enterprise AI infrastructure genuinely costs to keep running. "Reality check" is doing honest work in that title.
Last week, briefly
Two free evening rooms hit their ceiling within a day of each other. The Stripe Developer meetup on Wednesday 9 September closed at 390 registered with 20 on the waitlist, and ProductTank Dublin at ServiceNow stayed waitlist-only on the Thursday, exactly as we said on 28 August. Around them, DIGITAL VELOCITY took Pitch Dublin for the day.
What that means for you: a free ticket in Dublin is now a queue, and it forms about three weeks out on the recognisable names. Stripe's series is not a meetup any more — 390 seats is a small quarterly conference. Everything this week still shows space. Register now rather than on the day.
Hidden gem: the hack night that says no
[Hack and Chill [No AI]](https://anopenroom.com/dublin/events/hack-and-chill-no-ai-0911) is on Friday 11 September, 19:00, at Tog Hackerspace, free. It sits on our wider listings tier rather than the curated page, and we are pulling it up deliberately.
Most of this week's board has AI in the title or the topic. This one has it in the title as a prohibition. That is not nostalgia — it is a room for work that has quietly become hard to find a slot for: soldering something, finishing a stalled side project, reading somebody else's code because you want to. Tog has done this for years without a theme or a sponsor. If you have been to four AI meetups this month and cannot remember what any of them concluded, this is the corrective.
Who should go where
Builders. Friday at Tog and Wednesday at Workday: one for making something, one for finding out how people with more traffic than you test theirs.
Founders. Quiet week — no pitch night, no demo evening, no investor room. Monday morning at Grangegorman is the widest set of people you will meet, and the only room where you will talk to somebody outside software.
Investors. Tuesday at A&L Goodbody is the closest thing, and it is policy rather than dealflow. If capital-markets regulation is not your patch, skip the week and put SaaStock Dublin, 6 to 8 October, in the diary.
QA, platform and data people. Unusually well covered: BrowserStack in person on Wednesday, SQL Server on Tuesday, the platform-engineering reality check on Thursday. All free.
Worth knowing
There is a hackathon on Friday we could not list. The IDEATHON | Crypto World's Fair runs Friday 11 September, 9:30 to 17:30, at Dogpatch Labs, hosted by Superteam Ireland, with $1,000 in prizes, open to builders, founders and designers. It is not on our board and we will not fake a link: the registration URL we found is invite-token based and never resolved to a public page we could verify. We would rather tell you it exists than pretend our list is the whole city.
Nearly half this week is remote. Four of the nine have no venue because they are online. Check the listing for the join link and do not set off anywhere.
The waitlist pattern is predictable now. A recognisable corporate host plus a free ticket means join on the day it appears, not the week of.
