Tech events in Edinburgh this week: four rooms at half five (16-22 October 2026)

Thirteen Edinburgh tech events, 16-22 Oct 2026: Kubernetes Community Days, ROSCon UK, and a Thursday with four rooms opening at once.

Tech events in Edinburgh this week: four rooms at half five (16-22 October 2026)

At around 17:30 on Thursday, Edinburgh runs out of you. A robotics hall opens at Pollock Halls, Venture Cafe is half an hour into its Thursday Gathering at the Futures Institute, the Forum for Women in Data Centres launches its Scottish chapter in an engineering firm's George Street office, and ProductTank sits four recruiters down at CreateFuture. Thirteen tech events in Edinburgh between Friday 16 and Thursday 22 October, ten free, five of them on that Thursday.

By the numbers

Thirteen rooms, ten free, nothing on Sunday. One published price all week: five pounds.

The week by what it asks of you

Day by day does not help when a week leans this hard. Sorting by what each room wants of your diary does.

An hour, maybe ninety minutes

edindies - gamedev co-working in Levels - Sat 17 Oct, 13:00, LEVELS cafe and lounge, free. The weekly indie gamedev afternoon: bring what you are building, someone will play it.

Packed Lunch: Geovation Scotland Community Lunch - Wed 21 Oct, 13:00, Meadowbank House, free. Geospatial and location-tech over lunch, and the cheapest hour on the board.

ROSConUK Community Builder - Thu 22 Oct, 17:00, Pollock Halls, free. Ninety minutes, and the best value of the week: the ROSCon exhibition hall opened to the community with no conference ticket required, working robots on the stands.

Half a day

Founders Hub - by Bayes and ScotlandIS - Fri 16 Oct, 09:30, The Bayes Centre, free. The fortnightly co-working morning from ScotlandIS and the University of Edinburgh, minimal on purpose: desks, coffee, other founders, no programme.

Bargaining chips? State intervention in the semiconductor sector - Thu 22 Oct, 14:00, Edinburgh Law School, free. Subsidies, export controls and national champions: a university seminar on what every hardware supply chain is quietly panicking about.

An evening

Tuesday carries three inside half an hour, barely overlapping in audience. Women in Tech Edinburgh - OutGeekWomen, 18:00, The Melting Pot, free: short talks, then open networking. Founders Meetup Edinburgh - October 2026 at 18:00 in Shepherd and Wedderburn's offices, GBP 5 - a panel on "Bootstrapping to Break-Even", David Carboni hosting two founders who actually reached profitability. In a month thick with equity workshops, an evening about not raising earns its place. And EdinburghJS October Meetup at 18:30 at Perk in Fountainbridge, free: sites clients can edit themselves, and the internal tooling every team ends up writing anyway.

Thursday stacks four, and they need a decision.

Two days and a ticket

ROSCon UK 2026 - Wed 21 Oct, 08:30, Pollock Halls, The University of Edinburgh, paid. The Robot Operating System developer conference, run here by the Tartan Robotics Collective with the Open Source Robotics Foundation. People who ship robots, talking to people who ship robots.

The week's other two-day ticket closes this post.

Thursday, and how to spend it

Afternoon: semiconductors on your roadmap means 14:00 at the law school, uncontested.

Evening is a four-way with a travel problem behind it: Pollock Halls east of the Meadows, Cundall on George Street, CreateFuture at Waterloo Place, the Futures Institute on Lauriston Place. Two 17:00 starts and two 17:30 starts across that spread is a choice, not a crawl.

  • You build physical things, or want to: ROSConUK Community Builder, free, robots you can walk up to.
  • You hire product people, or are one being hired: AI-enabled Product Recruitment at CreateFuture, 17:30, free - four local recruiters on what has actually changed.
  • Data centres and infrastructure, or you like being in the room on the night something starts: Scotland goes FWD at Cundall, 17:30, free, drinks, the group's first event north of the border.
  • You want range and no agenda: Thursday Gathering #29 at the Futures Institute, 17:00, free, no application.

Pick one. We will not pretend two is possible.

Theme of the week: briefly a robotics city

ROSCon UK on Wednesday, its free community evening on Thursday, and in the week just gone a rehabilitation robotics workshop at Heriot-Watt's National Robotarium plus a Linux Users' Group round table on robotics research. Four robotics rooms in ten days, in a city this size, is a conference pulling its orbit into town.

Last week, briefly

AI Breakfast Club: Edinburgh ran a full house at the Futures Institute on Friday 9 October - Twin Path Ventures with Old College Capital - and no next date has been announced. So the only room this week where founders and money share a conversation is Tuesday's five-pound meetup, and that one is about not raising.

Who should go where

Founders, you lead. Friday morning at the Bayes Centre for a free desk and company, Tuesday 18:00 for the bootstrapping panel - the most useful five pounds in Scotland this week if you are pre-revenue.

Builders: two conferences and one free hall. Cloud native Monday, robotics Wednesday, and if nobody will pay for either, Thursday 17:00 gets you the exhibition floor for nothing.

Product and anyone hiring. Thursday 17:30 at CreateFuture - recruiters on the record is a thin genre here, so take it when it appears.

Investors, sit this one out. No demo day, no pitch night, no dealflow room. Tuesday's panel is the one hour that tells you anything: which founders have stopped needing you.

Worth knowing

  • Both conferences read "paid" with no number. Kubernetes Community Days UK and ROSCon UK are ticketed and neither publishes a price we can verify, so we print none. Check the registration page before you commit a Monday.
  • Both start at 08:30, not 09:30. If you have seen 09:30 for Kubernetes Community Days anywhere, including briefly from us, that was a timezone misread on our side, not the organiser. At that hour the difference is a train.
  • Three venues this week are companies, not buildings. Cundall, CreateFuture and Shepherd and Wedderburn LLP are the hosts' own offices. Take the door and the floor from your registration email.
  • Ten free, one priced, two unpriced. Registration, not money, is the gate here - and free rooms over-book.

The Big One: Kubernetes Community Days UK, and it wants two days

Kubernetes Community Days UK - Edinburgh 2026 - Mon 19 Oct, 08:30, John McIntyre Conference Centre, The University of Edinburgh, paid, from KCD UK.

<img src="https://joezfbehxxpcrpliygvo.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/hero-images/event-edinburgh-kubernetes-community-days-uk-edinburgh-2026-1019.webp" alt="Kubernetes Community Days UK Edinburgh 2026 at the John McIntyre Conference Centre" class="w-full rounded-lg my-6" loading="lazy" />

It goes last because it asks the most: two days of cloud native talks, demos and panels from half eight on a Monday, at a price we cannot quote you.

It is still the event of the week. KCDs are community-run rather than vendor-run, so the talks tend to be about what broke instead of what launched - and this is the second year Edinburgh has had one. A returning conference is a pulse, not a booking. For platform engineers and SREs it pays for itself in the corridors.

Before you go

Clear Monday if someone will pay for it, Tuesday evening if nobody will, and decide Thursday in advance. Just outside the window: the Blockchain Scotland Meetup, 29 October, Bayes Centre.

The rest of the month sits on the Edinburgh listings page. If you organise here, send the price with the date - two conferences this week could not tell us what they cost.
