Tech events in Edinburgh this week: the Bayes Centre takes three nights (23-29 October 2026)

Eleven Edinburgh tech events, 23-29 Oct 2026: Data Day at COSLA from 08:30, three sessions at the Bayes Centre, and one paid ticket all week.

Tech events in Edinburgh this week: the Bayes Centre takes three nights (23-29 October 2026)

Last week Edinburgh behaved like a conference town. Kubernetes Community Days at John McIntyre on Monday, ROSCon UK at Pollock Halls on Wednesday, the robotics exhibition hall thrown open on Thursday night. That's finished. The week ahead is eleven tech events in Edinburgh between Friday 23 and Thursday 29 October, mostly rooms of thirty people, and three of them are in the same building. Ten are free. One ticket costs money.

Start with today: Data Day Edinburgh

Data Day Edinburgh 2026 runs from 08:30 this morning at the COSLA Conference Centre, free. It pulls Scotland's public-sector and civic data community into one room for a full day on what is actually being built with data here, rather than what a vendor says could be.

If you sell into councils, the NHS or Scottish Government, this is the cheapest access to those buyers you'll get all month, and they're there to talk shop rather than be sold to. If you're a data engineer in a private-sector job, go for the opposite reason: public-sector data work operates under constraints most startups never meet, and the people who do it well are unusually good at explaining why. It's the one event this week where the room is the product.

The week ahead, by the room you'll be standing in

The Bayes Centre, three times. Scotland's Unfair Advantage in Sports & Wellbeing Technology, Monday 26th at 14:00, free: The Data Lab asks whether Scotland could be a serious testbed for sports and wellbeing tech. Tuesday 27th at 17:00, the UKRI AI Centre for Doctoral Training in Biomedical Innovation gives a distinguished lecture on delivering measurable patient outcomes with AI, free — note the framing, outcomes rather than promises. Then Thursday 29th at 17:00, the Blockchain Scotland Meetup, free, run by the industry association that connects builders, banks and regulators.

Back up at the university. Lean Agile Scotland 2026 opens Thursday 29th at 09:00, two days at the John McIntyre Conference Centre, £368. Thirteenth year, practitioner-led, Software Acumen. It's the only paid ticket in the week and the only one you need to argue for with a manager.

Pub rooms, cafés and a hack space. OffSec UK — Beginners Hardware Hacking, Monday 26th at 18:00 in Bar 50, free: the first meeting of OffSec UK's Scotland chapter, built for red teamers and reverse engineers but explicitly open to people starting out. edindies runs its Saturday session at LEVELS on Holyrood Road, 24th at 13:00, free, no programme. CodeBase hosts a one-day Greentech Hackathon on Tuesday 27th from 10:00, free, building rough prototypes against challenges facing Scotland's natural environment. And Thursday Gathering #30 at the Edinburgh Futures Institute is Neurotech Night at 17:00, powered by ARIA, free.

Two rooms with no address. GameDevEd's social (Tuesday 27th, 18:00) and Tech Meetup Edinburgh (Tuesday 27th, 18:30) both have no venue published on our listing. Tech Meetup is the city's long-running monthly general evening: demo, keynote, pizza, pub.

Venue corner: the Bayes Centre

Three of eleven events this week, plus the fortnightly Founders Hub co-working morning that ScotlandIS runs there. If you want one Edinburgh building to get familiar with, it's this one: informatics research upstairs, community events downstairs, and a calendar dense enough that you'll be back within a fortnight whatever you work on.

Who should go where

Sales and marketing, you lead this week. Data Day this morning, and Lean Agile on Thursday if your buyer is a delivery director. Skip Tuesday evening entirely — three rooms competing for the same forty people is not where deals start.

Investors, it's quiet. No demo day, no pitch night, nothing with a cap table in it. The Data Lab's Monday session is the only room with a thesis in it: if sports and wellbeing tech is a Scottish advantage, somebody is going to fund the proof.

Builders, Tuesday is yours, and you can only have one of it. The distinguished lecture at 17:00, GameDevEd at 18:00, Tech Meetup at 18:30. Take the lecture if you work near health data, Tech Meetup if you want people rather than content. Monday's hardware hacking session beats all three if you've been meaning to get into offensive security and keep not starting.

Founders, Thursday Gathering #30 is free, needs no application and is open to anyone in or near the scene — the lowest-friction room in the city. The Greentech Hackathon on Tuesday is the one to clear a day for if you're pre-product in climate.

Worth knowing

Last Thursday's seminar on state intervention in the semiconductor sector moved online mid-week. Our listing had it in person at Edinburgh Law School; Eventbrite's change notice said otherwise. The organiser was right, we were wrong, and it's off the Edinburgh city page now. We only caught it because we were registered.

Thursday at 17:00 is a straight choice: Thursday Gathering #30 at the Futures Institute, or the Blockchain Scotland Meetup at the Bayes Centre. Two free rooms, same hour, fifteen minutes apart on foot. Not a double bill.

Two Edinburgh events in early November are sold out, and our site will still show them as bookable: the Leading AI strategy and governance programme on 4 November (waitlist only) and the AI in social services symposium on 3 November. Don't build a week around either.

Two more you'll find elsewhere and can't get into: HackTheBurgh XIII has closed applications and is students and recent graduates only, and She Bytes Back x Snyk approves applications one at a time from experienced women engineers. Neither is on our city page for that reason.

Are these events really free?

Ten of the eleven this week, yes. Lean Agile Scotland is £368 for two days. One caveat on the label itself: our price field defaults to "free" when an organiser publishes nothing, so a free tag is an absence of information as often as it's a fact. Two November Edinburgh listings proved it this month — SciFor26 on the 11th turned out to carry a £50 minimum, and a founders' coffee club on the 12th costs £16.96. Both corrected.

Why do some organiser links go nowhere?

Twenty-three of our Edinburgh Eventbrite listings now point at dead pages — events pulled, cancelled or expired, with the registration URL left behind. None of them is on the Edinburgh city page, so the picks above are clean, but organiser and venue pages still carry links that 404. We're clearing them as we find them.

That's the week. If you run something we've missed, send it over — we'd rather list it than guess. And if you're elsewhere in the network next week, Manchester's calendar is here.
