Edinburgh has just run Turing Fest and ScotSoft inside seven days. This week the city exhales. There are ten tech events in Edinburgh on our board between Friday 25 September and Thursday 1 October, nine of them free, nothing on Friday and nothing at all on Wednesday. After a fortnight of conference badges that is not a decline — it is what a compact city's calendar does: arrive in bursts, then leave you a week to think.
A quiet week is when you finally go to the thing you have meant to see for two years.
The Big One: the AI conversation nobody schedules
Leading Organisational AI Transformations runs Monday 28 September, 17:30, at The Eagle Building, 19 Rose Street, £10, from the IIBA UK Scotland Branch.
Every other AI event in this city is about capability. This one is about the organisation the capability lands in, from a business analysis standpoint: how you lead a transformation programme, what you assess first, and where these things die. Which is where they mostly die — not in the model, in the process it was bolted to.
It is the highest-signal room of the week and the only listing carrying a charge. A branch meeting of a professional body is also a different animal from a meetup: the people there do this for a living, and are usually candid about how badly it goes.
Open doors: the weekend is the best of it
Doors Open Days 2026: The National Robotarium opens Saturday 26 September from 10:00, free — the UK's largest robotics and AI research centre, with live demonstrations, letting the public in for the morning. Edinburgh talks about its research base constantly and almost never gets inside it.
The next afternoon, Edinburgh Ragged University runs IT and Biscuits: Internet Privacy, Proton VPN and Linux TAILS at St Margarets House, 151 London Road, Sunday 27 September, 13:00, free. Hands-on privacy tooling, biscuits in the title because there are biscuits, and the least intimidating technical room in the city.
Money, and who is allowed to ask for it
Two free sessions at the Royal Bank Accelerator bookend the week. Fund Your Business Your Way: Founder's Guide to Debt is Tuesday 29 September, 09:30, 142-144 Princes Street — what lenders actually look at, and when borrowing beats giving away equity. Scottish founders are trained to reach for equity first and rarely walked through the alternative.
She Scales follows at the same address Thursday 1 October, 09:30, free, for women founders past the idea stage and trying to grow. One is about raising it, the other about what to do once the thing is real.
Also Thursday morning, LGBTQ+ Founder Network Edinburgh meets at the Urban Jungle Brunch Room, 187-189 Leith Walk, 10:00, free — the sort of network worth joining before you need it.
Data people, and two evenings for everyone else
Women in Data Science Edinburgh 2026 takes Thursday 1 October from 09:00 at Heriot-Watt's Riccarton campus, free — the Edinburgh edition of the global WiDS conference, with research talks, career sessions and the local data community.
Free, a full day, at conference scale: the most content per pound here. Riccarton is out of town, so check the bus before committing to a 09:00 start.
Tech Meetup Edinburgh — September 2026 runs Tuesday 29 September, 17:30 — pizza, announcements, a demo, a keynote, then drinks, and still the default first room for anyone new to tech here. Our row carries no venue: the address arrives with registration, so sign up rather than turn up. Then Venture Café's Thursday Gathering: Innovation at Home and Abroad at the Edinburgh Futures Institute, 1 Lauriston Place, Thursday 1 October, 17:00, free, on building locally and selling globally.
Hidden gem: a packed lunch with the map people
Packed Lunch: Geovation Scotland Community Lunch with Koda Konsult is Tuesday 29 September, 13:00, Meadowbank House, 153 London Road, free.
Geospatial quietly underpins logistics, planning, energy and insurance, and has almost no visible scene. Geovation's lunches are how that community actually meets: small, informal, and full of people who know where Scotland's location data lives and who controls it. If you have ever needed a dataset and not known who to ask, this beats three weeks of emails.
Questions we keep getting
Are these events really free?
Nine of this week's ten are, and the tenth is £10. But read the ticket tiers, not the headline price. We corrected one of our own listings on 23 September: an event published as free is £5, its free tier restricted to active investment managers, angels and approved partners. Normal structure, not a trick — but "free ticket available" and "free to you" are different claims.
What does it mean when a listing has no venue?
That the organiser gates the address behind registration — usually because the room is inside somebody's office. Tech Meetup Edinburgh is in that state this week. Register and the location reaches you; do not guess from last month's venue.
Who should go where
Builders. Saturday at the Robotarium. No technical meetup on the board this week — no JS, no Postgres, no cyber — so take the research centre instead.
Founders. One slot only? Tuesday morning on Princes Street for the debt session: free, specific, and the option most Edinburgh founders have never been walked through. She Scales on Thursday if you are past the idea stage.
Data and research people. Thursday at Heriot-Watt, all day. Nothing else comes close.
New to the city. Tuesday evening, Tech Meetup, once you have registered for the address. It exists to be your first room.
Investors. Genuinely quiet: no demo day, no pitch night. The Thursday Gathering at EFI is where the most founders will be in one place, and it costs nothing.

- Tech Meetup Edinburgh has no venue on our page. Not an oversight and not a cancellation — the address comes with the confirmation email. Register early.
- The correction behind that FAQ is ours. Founders Meetup Edinburgh's October event was published on our page as free; it is £5. We fixed it on 23 September. If you booked on the old information, check what you actually hold.
- Wednesday 30 September and Friday 25 September are both empty on our board rather than quiet in the city. If you run something on either date, that is the fastest win available to you.
- The Royal Bank Accelerator row spells it Princess Street. It is Princes Street, 142-144, EH2 4EQ. Search on the right one.
- Two of this week's rooms are neighbours. IT and Biscuits is at St Margarets House, 151 London Road; Geovation's packed lunch is at Meadowbank House, 153 London Road, two days later. Same stretch of road, different scenes entirely.
