Tech events in Edinburgh this week: the room number matters (9-15 October 2026)
Sixteen free Edinburgh tech events, 9-15 Oct 2026: a corrected breakfast room, the back entrance at CodeBase on Tuesday, and a postponement.
Tech events in Edinburgh this week: the room number matters (9-15 October 2026)
Room 2.55. That is where Friday's AI Breakfast Club now is, and you will not find it on our listing, which still shows the bare name of the building. The organiser moved the room on Tuesday and emailed to say so - the difference between spending 08:30 in a seminar room and spending it in a lobby.
It sets the tone. Sixteen tech events in Edinburgh between Friday 9 and Thursday 15 October, every one of them free, and at least three where the useful detail is not the headline but the door.
Friday: breakfast, then games
AI Breakfast Club: Edinburgh - 08:30-11:00, Room 2.55, Edinburgh Futures Institute, free, convened by Twin Path Ventures. An early AI discussion over breakfast, aimed at people actually deploying the stuff inside companies rather than theorising. The tiers are host-approved, so register before you set an alarm. Our row and the organiser now agree on 08:30; a week ago they did not.

In the evening, Devs & Bevs - 18:30, free, from The Game Dev Group: drinks for the city's game developers. No venue on the row; take the address from the registration page.
Saturday: the best weekend in weeks
Three rooms, all free. Linux Users' Group Edinburgh at 11:00 covers shell scripting, self-hosting and hardware, and is as welcoming to a first-time distro installer as to a sysadmin - venue on registration. edindies runs its weekly indie gamedev co-working at LEVELS from 13:00: bring whatever you are building and someone will play it. And AI: Bloom, Doom, or Vapour? at Jeremiah's Taproom, 15:00, is The Chattarati on where AI is actually heading, framed as a spectrum from material improvement to serious risk.
That last one is the most Edinburgh event of the week: a structured argument in a pub, no stage, no sponsor.
Sunday and Monday: nothing
Two blank days. Use them; the second half is dense.
Tuesday: equity before lunch, and the Big One after work
Fund Your Business Your Way: Founder's Guide to Equity - 09:30, Royal Bank Accelerator, free. What you give up, what you get, and whether equity is the right instrument at all. The Accelerator's funding series is the most consistently practical free thing on this calendar. In the evening, GameDevEd Social Meetup (18:00, free, venue on registration) gives the games crowd a third gathering in five days.
The Big One: Upwardly Mobile, and please use the back door
Upwardly Mobile: navigating a career as the underrepresented in tech - Tue 13 Oct, 17:30-19:30, CodeBase, 38 Castle Terrace, EH3 9DZ, free, from Together in Tech - Edinburgh.

Everything below came to us from organiser Charlotte Corbett and is not on the public listing.
- Use the back entrance of CodeBase. There is filming out front that evening; arrive at the main doors and you are in someone's shot.
- The speakers are Bethany McKenzie, Principal Recruitment Consultant at Harvey Nash, and Samantha Leeman, Product Owner and career coach at Lloyds Banking Group.
- MosAIc, Scotland's AI-governance community, is sponsoring and providing the food.
- Corbett's own framing: open to women, LGBTQ+ and allies.
- As of 4 October there were a few spaces left - the only capacity warning on the Edinburgh calendar this week.
Talks on what actually moved the needle, then networking and drinks. Career events are usually tech's weakest genre: panels of people who got lucky, telling you to be visible. This one has a recruiter who sees the salary bands and a product owner who changed track, in a room built for the people the industry keeps losing in year three.
Wednesday: four ways to stand around
Four free rooms, and an interchangeable set. Data Science Coffee Club at Black Medicine Coffee, 11:00, is the pick: first in a new series for data, ML and AI people, deliberately no talks and no slides. Then Edinburgh Entrepreneurs at Platform 5 (10:00), HUSTLE at O'Neills (17:00) and Edinburgh Tech Network's evening drinks at the Slug and Lettuce (19:00). All free. Pick one, not three.
Thursday: robots, food systems, Postgres
Rehab Robotics Workshop: Clinical & Community Practice - 09:30, The National Robotarium, free. Heriot-Watt putting clinicians and roboticists in the same room, which happens far less than either field pretends.
Then a straight 17:00 clash. Thursday Gathering: World Food Day at the Edinburgh Futures Institute is Venture Cafe on food systems and agritech; Startups Growth Clinic Edinburgh 2.0 at CodeBase works real growth problems in the room rather than talking about them. Gathering for range, Clinic for a specific problem.
Last of the week: PostgreSQL Edinburgh Meetup - 18:00, Paterson's Land, free, Room 1.21, first floor. Database internals and production war stories. The week's second room number, and this one the organiser published themselves.
Across the network
Edinburgh and Bristol run the same Royal Bank/NatWest equity workshop on Tuesday, half an hour apart - the accelerator network repeats its best content, so a clash at home is rarely a lost session. If you are travelling, the Bristol room worth the journey is Monday's free evening on the regulation of autonomous maritime systems, aboard the MV Balmoral in the harbour. See the Bristol guide.
Who should go where
Builders - Thursday is yours twice: the National Robotarium in the morning if you work near hardware or health, Postgres at 18:00 if you do not. Saturday's Linux group is the low-effort option and the friendliest technical room in the city.
Founders - Tuesday 09:30 for equity, then Thursday's Growth Clinic. Skip Wednesday's three general networking evenings unless you are new in town; they are the same conversation three times.
Investors - a quiet week and we will not dress it up. Tuesday's equity session tells you what founders are being taught about your terms. Otherwise sit it out.
Career changers, and anyone mentoring one - Tuesday 17:30, CodeBase, back entrance. Nothing else comes close.
Worth knowing
- AI. Who is in control? did not happen. Due on 8 October at 107 George Street, it has been postponed: the organiser is looking at the second or third week of November, nothing confirmed, and it is off our city page meanwhile. If it was in your diary, it is coming back - just not yet.
- Three rows have no venue. Devs & Bevs, the Linux Users' Group and the GameDevEd social all arrived without one. Day and time are solid; the address comes from the registration page.
- Everything this week is free. Sixteen for sixteen - which makes registration the only real gate, and free events over-book.
Coming up
Just outside the window: Founders Meetup Edinburgh on 20 October, themed "Bootstrapping to Break-Even", with three named panellists. In a month of equity workshops, an evening about not raising is a useful counterweight.
Before you go
Sixteen rooms, no tickets to buy, two room numbers and one back door. The full list is on the Edinburgh listings page - and if you organise here, send us the door detail as well as the date. That is the part readers need.
