London tech events this week: read the map, not the list (2–8 October 2026)

London tech events 2–8 Oct: AI & Society has moved to The Reliance on Tue 6 Oct, Red Hat Summit Connect is free at Tobacco Dock, Thursday is stacked.

Twenty-four events on the London city page between Friday and Thursday. Eighteen are tagged AI. Twenty-two are free. Which is what makes a London week hard rather than easy: nothing is stopping you, so the only real cost is the Tube journey you can't make twice. So we've sorted this week's networking events in London by where they are, not what day they fall on — geography is the constraint that bites here. And one event moved both building and date, which makes it the likeliest to put you outside the wrong door.

The weekend is empty. After Sifted Summit week, call that recovery rather than a gap.

The week by postcode

Old Street — and the one that moved

AI & Society London: AI Shaping Work, Cities & Everyday Life is now Tuesday 6 October, 17:30, at The Reliance, 336 Old St, EC1V 9DR. Free. It was Wednesday 30 September at Plexal in Shoreditch. AI & Society UK's Sophia Arkinstall announced the change on 28 September and moved three things at once: date, venue and format — the talks are gone, replaced by relaxed introductions and networking. Our URL still carries `0930` on purpose, so anyone holding the old link lands in the right place. Go on the 6th.

The techUK corridor

Three free afternoons, one host. Public Sector Tech Talks with Helen Wylie, DWP Digital — Mon 5 Oct, 16:00, techUK — puts DWP Digital's Director General and CDIO on the record about one of the largest tech estates in government. That's the cheapest access to a buyer of that size all month. Cyber Innovation Den 2026 follows Tue 6 Oct, 12:30: UK cyber startups pitching to buyers and investors. Then Space-based compute: hype, physics and the UK opportunity — Wed 7 Oct, 13:30, at HPE — which is willing to say whether orbital data centres are engineering or narrative.

The lecture-theatre belt

All free. The rulers: corporate power in the age of AI and the cloud, LSE Marshall Building Room 2.06, Tue 6 Oct, 12:45. AI and the Future of Work: Are We Becoming More Like Machines? — Wed 7 Oct, 17:30, Science Gallery London, from King's Institute for Artificial Intelligence: short, and academic in the good sense. Campaign Lab's Autumn Hack Night, Newspeak House, Mon 5 Oct, 19:00 — civic data, welcoming to newcomers.

Buildings with a reception desk

Also free, all in an office. Fin|Tech|Bio at Level39 (Tue 6 Oct, 17:30), Cloud Native London at Just Eat (Wed 7 Oct, 18:00), AI Exchange October ft. humanoid robots from AWS at Amazon's LHR14 office (Wed 7 Oct, 18:00; the organiser's copy calls it AWS Farringdon), Engineering at Machine Speed at American Express (Thu 8 Oct, 17:45) and AI & Software Engineering: Being the Human in the Loop at Salisbury House (Thu 8 Oct, 18:00). Corporate lobby means a name check — see below.

Postcode: none

Four listings carry no address because they're online: techUK's MOD Digital and Data Commercial industry update (Fri 2 Oct, 09:00), Microsoft Reactor's Beyond Chatbots: build your first production agent with Microsoft Foundry (Tue 6 Oct, 16:00), Platform Engineers London on keeping telemetry governable as agentic SRE workloads multiply (Tue 6 Oct, 18:00 — our stored title for that one is truncated mid-sentence, so that description is ours, not theirs), and an MCP, agents and skills meetup (Thu 8 Oct, 17:00, online). A fifth, Arize AI's, is in person but holds its address back.

One venue isn't a building at all: AI Work Walk #1 meets at Waterloo Station, Tue 6 Oct, 18:15, and walks. Bring a stalled pilot.

The Big One: Red Hat Summit: Connect London, Thursday

Red Hat Summit: Connect London 2026 — Thu 8 Oct, 08:30, Tobacco Dock, free. Be clear-eyed about what it is: a vendor's day, built to walk you further into the Red Hat ecosystem. Be equally clear-eyed about why it's still the biggest room of the week. When a platform vendor runs a free one-day summit in Wapping, the integrators, the platform teams and the people who sign infrastructure contracts all turn up in one place, and you can register with or without a Red Hat account. Nothing this week is denser if you run or buy infrastructure.

It lands on the most crowded day of the week — six city-page events on Thursday. Choose once, properly.

Who should go where

Builders get the best of it. Wednesday is Cloud Native London for Kubernetes and pizza; Thursday is Salisbury House or Amex if your live question is how hard a pipeline can be pushed before governance snaps; Red Hat on Thursday morning for the platform layer. Don't attempt both office evenings — you'll be half-present at each.

Founders: Cyber Innovation Den if you're in security, Fin|Tech|Bio if your problem is getting a pilot past procurement. Skip the general mixers — the calendar's too specific to spend an evening in a room with no theme.

Selling to government or enterprise: Monday's DWP Digital conversation, easily — or Friday's Fintech Design for Financial Inclusion (17:00, Informa TechTarget, free) if the product touches underserved customers.

Investors, your week is quiet and expensive. Cyber Innovation Den is where dealflow congregates for free; the alternative, FinTech as a Force for Good 2026 at Chicago Booth's London campus (Thu 8 Oct, 08:00), is £550 — worth it only for the Chatham House roundtables with incumbents.

Why does one of this week's events have a September date in its URL?

Because we chose not to break the old link. When AI & Society London moved to 6 October we kept the `-0930` slug, so anyone who saved or shared the original URL still lands on the corrected listing. The page is right; the URL is a fossil.

Worth knowing

  • Shipping AI agents in the EU (Thu 8 Oct, 18:00, free) is the approval-gated one. Arize AI is the organiser; Wise and AWS are co-hosts. Three talks then networking: Cristian Camargo (Wise), Jitendra Yadav (Arize AI), Ernesto Salas (AWS). The empty venue field is deliberate — the address arrives with approval.
  • One price to read twice. Lean, Loved & Fundable (Mon 5 Oct, 18:00, EVE) shows as paid on our page, but the figure we hold is a payment-processing artefact, not a ticket price. Check the organiser's listing.
  • An "available" badge on our pages is not a promise. Our ingest currently flattens sold-out, waitlist and invite-only back to "available", so trust the organiser on that one field.
  • Doors and start are different times and our listings usually hold only one, so arrive on the organiser's doors time — and if the venue is a company office, bring photo ID in the name you booked under. Three organisers in a fortnight have asked; this week is full of corporate receptions.

Across the network

If your Thursday here is spoken for, Manchester's is worse: ten city-page events on 8 October, headed by the Cambridge x Manchester Partnership Innovation Summit — whose organiser moved the times, leaving early bookers with wallet tickets showing the old ones. See the Manchester week.

Before you go

All 24 are on the London listings page, including the ones we've talked you out of. Running something we missed? Send it over — London is where we most often hear about a good room too late. One line to keep: Tuesday, 17:30, The Reliance, not Plexal.
