London tech events this week: who owns the stack

Thirty London tech events, 30 Oct to 5 Nov: Sovereign AI Summit closes sales today, KCL's free Tech Summit, Barclays Demo Day and a nine-event Tuesday.

London tech events this week: who owns the stack

Ticket sales for the Sovereign AI Summit close today. That is the one hard deadline in a week carrying thirty approved tech events on the London city page between this morning and Thursday night - nine on Tuesday, nine more on Wednesday. Nobody is short of networking events in London this week. The question is what you give up to be in a particular room.

The theme: one argument, five rooms

Five of this week's rooms are working the same question - whether Britain should build its own AI and quantum stack, and who pays for it. Sovereign AI Summit runs it as a day at The Oval. Sovereign AI: The Startup Perspective runs it as a breakfast panel with founders. techUK's Tech and Innovation Summit 2026 runs it as policy, themed Innovation Nation. Wednesday splits it in two: techUK's breakfast briefing on building the UK's quantum capability through international partnership, and the Quantum + AI Tech Show at Big Penny Social in Walthamstow, three parallel summits on the applied end. Pick the register you can act on.

The Big One: Sovereign AI Summit, Monday 2 November

UKAI's day at The Oval, 09:30, £150. The agenda has landed since we first listed it: six tracks, including a Quantum Britain strand, and six named speakers where a fortnight ago there were none. On the table: whether a mid-sized economy builds its own stack or specialises, and what government can usefully do either way. The 18:00 Awards are ticket-holders only, so the evening is not a crash-the-drinks situation. Buy it if you sell to the public sector or raise against UK industrial strategy. Skip it if you want a technical day; this is a procurement room and it will talk like one.

The free counterweight is Saturday. Tech Summit 2026 is KCL Tech's flagship, billed as the UK's largest student-led technology conference and careers fair, 09:30, free to register. Our row carries no venue; the location comes with registration. If you are hiring juniors, it is the cheapest pipeline day of the quarter.

The week ahead, in four blocks

Tonight and the weekend. Founder Matching at the Middle Eight Hotel, 66 Great Queen Street, 18:30, £10 - Tech Launchpads keep it open to technical and non-technical people, academics included. Women Founding Differently runs this morning at Patch Twickenham, 10:00, free. Sunday the Solana Hacker House opens a thirteen-day London run before Breakpoint: a working space, not a conference, 10:00 to 20:00 daily, free, venue on registration.

Monday and Tuesday: the paid wall. Data & AI Conference Europe 2026 at etc.venues Fenchurch Street is £975, the steepest ticket in the window by a distance. CTO Craft Con: Fintech takes The Minster Building for two days of senior engineering leadership; paid, no figure published, so you budget blind. techUK's Tech and Innovation Summit is £170 on Tuesday.

Tuesday afternoon: free and crowded. Barclays Demo Day: Best of Universities at Barclays Head Office, 12:30, free - 45 university spinouts, all actively raising, across three concurrent stages. OpenAI DevDay Exchange London at 14:00 is the regional follow-on to DevDay, for people already shipping on the platform. Twilio Assemble London opens doors at CodeNode at 17:00, on getting agents out of the chat window and into the channels customers already use. Three rooms, one afternoon, and OpenAI's row still has no venue on it.

Wednesday night, pick one. Cloud Native London at Just Eat's Fleet Place House - pizza from 18:00, three slots on the bill. Conversations by IF: AI triage at Newspeak House opens a series on when generative AI can responsibly touch public services and when a human has to step in. Process London 004 at Signature Brew Haggerston, £13.70, on working process rather than finished artefacts. Then Thursday: the Graphs AI Workshop with Neo4j and Google at Union House, 13:30, eight hands-on labs ending with a Neo4j agent behind Gemini Enterprise.

Who should go where

Founders. Tonight's Founder Matching if you are still hunting a co-founder. After that, Tuesday: Barclays Demo Day to watch 45 raises happen in one afternoon, or the Edtech Founders Supper Club at The Parcel Yard above King's Cross, £10, a small peer-led dinner, 18:00 to 20:00, if education is your market. Leave the big paid conferences alone unless a named buyer is on the agenda.

Investors. One call: Barclays Demo Day, Tuesday lunchtime. Spinouts, three stages, everybody raising. Nothing else in the window concentrates dealflow like that.

Builders. OpenAI DevDay Exchange Tuesday, Cloud Native London Wednesday, the Neo4j workshop Thursday. A full technical week for nothing. The Quantum + AI Tech Show is the sleeper: free, all day Wednesday, better than the name suggests if you work near compute or security.

Sales and marketing. Dreamland 4 at 83 Rivington Street, Wednesday, lunch from 12:30 and programme from 13:30, £109.05 - ecommerce and DTC growth, pitched as the non-corporate east London alternative. Twilio Assemble if you sell developer tooling. Skip the generic AI panels this week; the calendar is too good to spend an evening on a room with no agenda.

Hidden gem: Campaign Lab Autumn Hack Night

Monday, 19:00, Newspeak House, free. Campaign Lab is a fortnightly hack night for progressive data scientists, researchers and activists building election tooling - no pitches, no badges, and one of the few rooms in London where civic tech gets built rather than discussed. We noticed it because Newspeak House hosts three separate events this window, which makes a Bethnal Green townhouse one of the busier venues of the week.

Worth knowing

  • The Sovereign AI Summit stops selling today, 30 October. Our listing still reads available; today is the real deadline. Our earlier note that UKAI had named no speakers is stale - six are on the published agenda.
  • Tuesday's AI Breakfast Club is gated. Sovereign AI: The Startup Perspective is free to register at the Barclays Innovation Hub, 41 Luke Street EC2A 4DP, 08:30 to 10:30, but registration needs approval and the Ecosystem ticket allocation is already full. The panel: Alistair Pullen (Cosine), Karl Havard (Era4), Meryem Arik (Doubleword), Dom Hallas (Startup Coalition).
  • The Neo4j workshop caps at fifty and screens for qualified builders. Free, Thursday afternoon, not a walk-up.
  • Four rows in this window carry no venue at all - Tech Summit, Solana Hacker House, techUK's Tech and Innovation Summit and OpenAI DevDay Exchange. In each case the address arrives with your registration.
  • Mind the Product's AI Hackathon at The Mermaid on Puddle Dock is the only row this week flagged near capacity. Wednesday, free, all day.
  • Thursday's Newspeak House panel on the UK's social media ban reached our feed twice. One row, one event, 18:30.
  • Our price column defaults to free when an organiser publishes nothing, so read a few labels above as free to register rather than confirmed free.

Before you go

Thirty events, one of you. Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday evening are the only slots where this calendar makes you choose; the rest fits around them. The full list, including the eight rows we did not write up, is at anopenroom.com/london. Running something we have missed? Send it over and it goes in next week's edition.
