Manchester tech events this week: Friday pays for itself
Turn up at Department Campfield at 10:00 on Friday and you leave with six months of software. The Shortlist is a free morning on account-based marketing for B2B SaaS, run by Overfunded, and its headline sponsor Paradev - Superset until recently - is giving every attendee six months' free access. That is in no listing text, ours included until this post. Nine tech events sit on the Manchester city page between Friday and Thursday, six of them free, and that one has the best return per hour on the page.
Three rooms asking who AI is for
Three of the nine are working the same question, and it is not what the technology can do.
MISRA: the Future, and AI - the journey ahead - Tue 10 Nov, 08:30, Delta Hotels Manchester Airport, £50. Where MISRA's coding guidelines go next, and what AI-assisted development means for code that has to be demonstrably safe. MISRA governs C and C++ in safety-critical work, so this is the rare room where generated code has to prove itself against a standard instead of a demo.
AI for Equity: who is it actually built for? - Tue 10 Nov, 18:30, The Portico Library, £10. An hour-long fireside and book launch with Jenny Garrett OBE, on whose problems AI is being built to solve. Ten pounds, the Portico, and a question most AI evenings route around.
Natter Con 26: Transparency - Thu 12 Nov, 08:30 to 18:30, Autotrader, 3 Hawkshaw Street, £50. Natter Community's one-day conference on design, product and AI, themed on transparency. Breakfast and lunch are inside the £50.
Two of the three charge. In a nine-event week that is the right way round: the ones asking for money are the ones with a position.
The week, sorted by how much it asks of you
The Shortlist - Fri 6 Nov, 10:00, Department Campfield, free. Asks you to bring a real problem. A morning for B2B SaaS marketers running account-based programmes, and for anyone trying to get their marketing data into a state an AI tool can do something useful with. Come with the actual mess.
GreatUniHack 2026 - Sat 7 Nov, 09:00, Nancy Rothwell Building, free. Asks for a Saturday. UniCS, the University of Manchester's computer science society, runs the city's flagship student hackathon as a single-day build. Free to enter, and the best thing on this week's calendar if you are a student.
NatWest Accelerator Pitch Panel/Demo Day - Wed 11 Nov, 14:00, NatWest Accelerator Manchester Hub, free. Asks a pitch of a few people and a judgement of everyone else. A hand-picked group pitches to a panel drawn from the Manchester ecosystem and NatWest's own team. The only investor-facing room of the week.
Manchester: Data Intelligence Network - Thu 12 Nov, 18:00, Greater Manchester Digital Security Hub, free. Asks nothing but your evening. Datacove's November data night: two talks and a long networking tail, with Fiona Pye, Senior Data Analyst at AutoTrader UK, on the bill.
The Big One: WordCamp has no programme until you give it one
WordCamp Manchester 2026 - Fri 6 Nov, 09:00, Whitworth Locke, free.

WordCamp is back as a barcamp rather than a conference: no fixed speaker programme, and the sessions shaped by whoever turns up on the day. Which is either the best format going or the worst, depending entirely on the room - and that is why it suits this city. A free day whose agenda gets written at 09:00 by the people present rewards anyone with something half-finished to show, and gives nothing to anyone hoping to sit at the back. If you have been meaning to give a talk and have never had a slot, this is the lowest-risk first one you will get: no CFP, no rejection, no slide deadline. Bring the thing you have been building and pitch a session on it.
Hidden gem: Deliver Sessions
Deliver Sessions: Into The Unknown! - Thu 12 Nov, 18:00, Express Building, free. A meetup about how software teams actually work well together, this edition hosted by the consultancy Transform. It gets none of the attention the AI nights get, and delivery is what every engineering lead in the city is quietly paying for in slipped quarters. We picked it out because it keeps running without a marketing push, which is the clearest signal a meetup exists for its members rather than its sponsor.
Who should go where
Investors: one room, and it is free. Wednesday's NatWest pitch panel is the week's only pitch-to-panel format. If that is not your stage, Thursday's data night is where the technical founders are and nobody will pitch you.
Founders: Friday, twice. The Shortlist for the sponsorship alone, then WordCamp if you would rather talk than be talked at. Two £50 conferences is a day of runway - pay only where the subject is literally your product.
Builders: the back half. WordCamp on Friday, GreatUniHack on Saturday if you are a student, Deliver Sessions and the data night on Thursday. MISRA on Tuesday if you ship software into anything that can hurt someone.
Sales and marketing: Friday, obviously. The Shortlist is the only room this week aimed at you, it is free, and it comes with six months of software. The rest of your week is quiet - use it.
Worth knowing
Paradev's sponsorship is in nobody's listing, ours included. Paradev, which traded as Superset until recently, is headline sponsor of The Shortlist and every attendee gets six months' free access. Overfunded runs the room; the registration page sells it as a marketing meetup and stops there. One free registration off this page this week, make it that one.
Thursday 12th does not fit together. Natter Con runs to 18:30 at Autotrader while Deliver Sessions starts at 18:00 at the Express Building and the Data Intelligence Network starts at 18:00 at DiSH. Three of the week's nine events on one day, and you can have the end of Natter Con or an evening meetup, not both.
Nothing on Sunday or Monday. The city page is empty on 8 and 9 November. That is not a hole in our coverage - there is nothing approved in Manchester at city-page tier on either day. Plan the week around Friday and Thursday.
Before you go
Nine rooms, six of them free, and the best-value thing on the page is a Friday morning whose own listing undersells it. The full week is on the Manchester page. Running something we have not listed? Send it in - this calendar is thinner than the city deserves, and submissions are how it fills. The newsletter carries the picks on Friday mornings if you would rather we did the reading.
