Manchester tech events this week: one building takes three of them (9-15 October 2026)
Manchester tech events 9-15 Oct 2026: Data Decoded takes Manchester Central, two user groups collide inside it, and DiSH runs cyber twice in a day.
Manchester Central is doing a lot of work this week: one convention complex, three of the twenty-eight tech events on our Manchester page, and a scheduling problem the organisers have cheerfully handed to you. Twenty-four of the twenty-eight are free, eleven are on Thursday, and the week below is sorted by building, not by day - the address tells you more.
Manchester Central, and the collision inside it
Data Decoded MCR 2026 - Wed 14 Oct, 09:00, Manchester Central, free. The week's big one, no inflating required: a conference for data and AI teams built around implementation problems rather than keynote futurism, with organisations talking about projects already at scale.

Why it earns the slot: it is the only thing this week putting the people who do data work in the North West in a room with the people who buy it, free, for a full day. Free admission at this size changes who turns up: practitioners, not just whoever has a training budget.
Then the community programme, which is where it gets awkward. Fabric & Power BI Manchester, with Rob Sewell and Duncan Boyne and PyDataMCR October have each taken a slot inside the Convention Complex on Tue 13 Oct at 17:30, both free. No way to do both. Decide on the language you actually write.
DiSH, twice in one day
Barclays Eagle Labs runs the Digital Security Hub twice on Wed 14 Oct. UK CyberSpine Demo Day at 13:30, free: the cohort presents to investors and corporate security buyers. Then UK CyberSpine: Investment Landscape Discussion & Networking at 17:30, free: investors, sector experts and founders who have raised, on one panel. A demo day and a funding panel, one building, one Wednesday, no ticket price. Manchester is rarely handed that.
The university rooms
Manchester Health Series - HealthTech / MedTech - Thu 15 Oct, 08:30, No.1 Circle Square, free. Empact Ventures on clinical adoption and the route to market in the NHS, which is the actual bottleneck for healthtech here, not the technology.

Same morning, Manchester Meets the Proteome 2026 at the Michael Smith Lecture Theatre, 09:00, free - proteomics, spatial biology and bioinformatics. The deepest tech here is in a lab. The week opens with the Coller AI Competition in the Nancy Rothwell Building, Fri 9 Oct, 11:00, free: pitches judged for the Coller prize. Also Thursday: Venture Cafe's Tech with Purpose, Sister - Renold Building, 17:00, free.
Theme of the week: Manchester's ecommerce week
Four events, one trade. Women in Ecommerce, a Mage Camp fringe event opens it Tue 13 Oct, 14:00, free, venue on registration. Mage Camp follows Wed 14 Oct, 08:30, free, venue on registration: Magento and Adobe Commerce, built around merchants rather than vendors. Thursday splits by budget - Successify, the Manchester Shopify Meetup at Social Refuge, 13:00, free and already near capacity, or the Ecommerce Leadership Summit North 2026 at Shoosmiths, XYZ Building, 09:30, GBP 58.
The rest of the rooms
Wednesday night the Corn Exchange runs two at once in the same bar: Network One: AI & Machine Learning Networking (free) and Manchester Network: Startup Founders, Tech Entrepreneurs, Investors (GBP 10), both 18:00 at Banyan. One bar, two door lists.
For people who build: Northern Azure User Group at Morson Edge, Tue 13 Oct, 18:00, free, on AI agent tooling and enterprise data infrastructure. Bring a laptop. Architecture Under Pressure: Would You Ship It? from Software Crafters Manchester, Bonded Warehouse, Thu 15 Oct, 18:00, free: teams redesign a fictional architecture while the constraints change every ten minutes. Best-designed free hour on the calendar.
Women in Tech Week lands one too: Future-proofing your career in the age of AI & Data at Colony King Street, Mon 12 Oct, 12:00, free, keynote from Dr Vanessa Vallely OBE. The only thing on the page all Monday, and worth the hour.
Last week, briefly
Catalyst 12: Why AI Can't Fix What Structure Already Broke ran Thursday at Brabners, 100 Barbirolli Square, M2 3AB, and organiser Phil Woodbridge sent us the part no listing carries: the entrance is near the top of the steps at the end of the canal, you tell reception you are there for Catalyst12, and drinks afterwards were at The Anthologist. And the 17:00 on our row is the door time: Phil starts at 17:30, arrive a few minutes before. At a professional-services office here, the way in is rarely the front door you can see.
Who should go where
Investors - your week, and compact. The DiSH demo day on Wednesday afternoon, then the investment panel in the same building at 17:30. Add Friday's Coller AI Competition for university-stage pitches. Three rooms, all free, no mixer required.
Builders - Tuesday is the decision, not Thursday: Fabric and Power BI or PyDataMCR, 17:30, same complex, pick on your stack. Then Architecture Under Pressure on Thursday, the only session that makes you do the work rather than watch it. Skip the AI-for-business sessions - Introduction to AI Tools for Your Business (Fri 9 Oct, 09:00, Central Library, free) and the paid Claude Cowork workshop (Tue 13 Oct, 10:00, GBP 25) are for SME owners, not you.
Founders - healthtech and medtech, Thursday morning, No.1 Circle Square. Raising in cyber? The DiSH double beats any evening here. If you only want the room, Colony Networking at the Manchester Tennis & Racquets Club (Thu 15 Oct, 17:00, GBP 15) guarantees every attendee a slot. The free bar nights do not.
Sales and marketing - the ecommerce block. Successify on Thursday if you sell to merchants: free, near capacity, register today.
Worth knowing
- Wednesday's cyber evening is on our page twice. The same DiSH panel also appears as UK Cyber investment landscape discussion and networking, under two venue spellings and two Barclays Eagle Labs entities. One event, 17:30. Dedup pending our end.
- Tech Showcase Manchester has come off the city page - on review it is a vendor showcase, not a community event. If you took it from last week's post, that is why it has gone.
- Four listings have no venue: Women in Ecommerce, Mage Camp, Fabric Community Call Series (Thu 15 Oct, 17:00, free) and NWRUG (Thu 15 Oct, 18:30, free). The address comes with the registration.
- The Talent Leaders workshop argues with itself. Talent Leaders Manchester Workshop sits on our page at Wed 14 Oct, 09:00, Four New Bailey, free, while the organiser's own text says the 15th. Confirm before blocking the morning.
- Coming up: the #exabits Computing History Tour on 21 October has been shortened and now runs 12:30 to 14:00. If you booked a longer afternoon, it finishes earlier than you think.
Before you go
All twenty-eight, including the ones we have steered you past, are on the Manchester listings page. Tuesday is the real collision: Manchester Central, 17:30, two good rooms, one choice. Running something in Greater Manchester we have not listed? Send it over - we would rather be corrected than complimented.
