Milan tech events this week: Assolombarda books the two best rooms in the network outside London

The best two rooms on our Milan tech events page this week have the same host, and it is not a startup, an accelerator or a VC. Assolombarda — the industrial employers' association — is running both, and neither costs anything. Between them they score higher than any other pair of networking events on our network this week outside London.

Ten events on the Milan city page between Friday 25 September and Thursday 1 October; eight are free. That is three fewer than last week, and we would rather say so than pad it: Milan is one of the newest cities we cover and a week here is still a hand-picked selection rather than a full map. This one is top-heavy in the best way.

The double bill

Credit and Innovation: How Banks Support Startups — Friday 25 September, 09:45, Assolombarda — Sala Falck, Via Chiaravalle 8. Free.

If you are raising or managing debt, this is the most useful morning of the month. Assolombarda and InnovUp put Italy's main banking groups in one room and ask them to say plainly what they actually offer an innovative company: Giorgio Ciron for Assolombarda and InnovUp, Andrea Notari on Credem's corporate venture capital and open innovation side, Giusy Stanziola from UniCredit. Equity events are easy to find in Milan. A room where three banks explain their own instruments to founders, in Italian, with no pitch competition attached, is rare.

PRONTI PER L'AI? Le competenze per far crescere le imprese — Monday 28 September, 10:00, Assolombarda, Sala Camerana, Via Pantano 9. Free.

The launch of Assolombarda's research "La sfida dell'AI per le competenze", with data on which skills Lombardy companies are genuinely hiring for and how they are reorganising roles around them. Matteo Laffi presents from Assolombarda's Centro Studi, with Emilio Colombo from Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore and Giulia Carsaniga from the European Commission's AI Office. The week, by what it is actually about

Money and the deal. Beyond Friday's banks, Thursday closes the window with Innovation Meetup by Innovation Match - Milan — Thursday 1 October, 14:30, S32 - Sassetti 32, Via Filippo Sassetti 32. Free. Rocket Dreams runs matchmaking between startups, corporates and investors: short pitches, themed tables, scheduled one-to-ones. You leave with meetings rather than business cards.

AI inside the enterprise. AI NOW MILANO 2026 — Innovation, Governance and Real Impact takes Wednesday 30 September from 09:00 at MIND Milano Innovation District, the district built on the ex-Expo site. Half a day with institutions, business, academia and technology leaders on one agenda. It is the only conference of the week you pay for, and our listing carries no figure — check the ticket page first. Then on Thursday 1 October at 17:00, AI Enters the Enterprise: the Alstom Case and the forgIA Project puts Assolombarda inside Alstom's site in Sesto San Giovanni, free, to introduce forgIA — its project for unlocking industrial AI — to companies in northern Milan. A real factory, a real case, and networking after.

Screens, machines and craft. THE ITALIAN TOUCH — TouchDesigner Event in Milan runs Friday 25 September from 14:00 at Fucine Vulcano A.P.S., Via Gaudenzio Fantoli 7. Paid, EUR 15.09 — a day and evening on the node-based platform behind much of the world's live visuals and interactive installation work, with talks and live patching. The cheapest ticket you will buy this year for a specialism this deep. Community Saturday @ WeMake opens the makerspace on Via Venini on Saturday 26 September at 15:00, free: fablab access, 3D printing, laser cutting and electronics demos. Advanced TV Conference 2026 fills the Teatro Lirico Giorgio Gaber on Tuesday 29 September from 09:00, free — the fourth edition of Italy's reference conference on how addressable TV, connected TV, streaming and data are rewriting the media mix, run by Engage with UPA. And Beyond Autocomplete: Architecting Black-Box Agentic Testing gives Wednesday 30 September at 19:00 its hardest technical hour: Ludovico Besana at the Politecnico's Sala vetrata Bassini on architecting agentic testing that goes past assisted autocomplete. Free, and aimed at QA engineers.

The city as the venue. Milano Digital Week 2026 — La città generativa opens Wednesday 30 September at 10:00 at Smart City Lab, Via Ripamonti 88. Free. The Comune's ninth edition spreads workshops, talks and sessions across the whole city and runs past our window to 4 October — treat the listing as the front door, not the programme.

Organiser spotlight: Assolombarda

Three of this week's ten events are Assolombarda's: the banks on Friday, the skills research on Monday, the Alstom case on Thursday. In other cities the best free rooms come from communities and campuses; here the industrial employers' association is out-programming everyone, and its events put institutions, banks and industrial groups in front of founders who would otherwise never get the meeting. Who should go where

• Founders — Friday morning, and it is not close. Debt is the least-understood part of an Italian cap table and three banks will explain themselves for free. Then Thursday afternoon at Innovation Match if you want the meetings.
• Builders — Wednesday evening at the Politecnico. One speaker, one hard problem, no keynote. Saturday at WeMake if you would rather hold the machine than hear about it.
• Investors — a quiet week for dealflow, honestly. Thursday's matchmaking is the only room built for it; the deeper value this week is Monday's skills data, which tells you what your portfolio is competing for.
• Marketing and media — Tuesday at the Teatro Lirico. Free, fourth edition, and the only serious addressable-TV conversation in Italy.

Worth knowing

• AI NOW MILANO is paid and our listing has no price. Everything else on the board this week is free or EUR 15.09. Check the organiser's page before you plan the Wednesday.
• Free does not mean walk in. Assolombarda's two addresses, Alstom's site in Sesto San Giovanni and the Politecnico all run reception desks that work from a list. Register in advance, bring photo ID matching the name you registered with — one organiser on our network enforced exactly that this month.
• Wednesday is the pile-up. Three events, from a 09:00 conference at MIND to a 19:00 talk at the Politecnico, and MIND is a long way from Città Studi. Pick one end of the day.
• Most of this week runs in Italian — the two Assolombarda mornings, the Advanced TV Conference and Milano Digital Week included. Our English pages exist so you can find the event, not because the room will switch language.
