Milan tech events this week: two listings, and one of them is an argument worth watching (4–10 Sep 2026)

Tempio del Futuro Perduto is a reclaimed building in Milan that mostly does not host tech events, which is exactly why the one on Friday is worth your evening. Two events made our Milan tech events listings for 4 to 10 September, so rather than stretch that out, we will spend most of this post on the first.

Milan is among the newer cities on anopenroom, so a two-event week is partly the city in early September and partly us still drawing the map. It is not a reason to write about nothing: the fortnight straight after this window is the fullest Milan calendar we have listed.

Friday: two professions that need each other, in the same room

Beyond Pixels: Press & Play — Tempio del Futuro Perduto, Fri 4 Sep, 19:30–21:30, free, The Scostumati.

The premise is a good one: what happens when the people who make video games sit down with the people who write about them, in public, with nothing softening it. The Scostumati are hosting — a developer community that started on Discord during the pandemic and now puts working industry professionals and students in the same conversation — and the format is an open debate rather than a panel where everyone agrees politely.

That is a rarer shape than it sounds. Most industry events are built so nobody in the room has a structural reason to disagree with anybody else; this one is built the opposite way. Developers and games press run on embargoes, review scores, access and a permanent low-grade suspicion in both directions, and an evening where both sides explain themselves out loud is the fastest education available on how the Italian games industry works.

Milan carries the design and media weight in Italian tech, and games sit at the intersection: a creative industry with a hard engineering core. If you work in product, design, community or comms, this is a cheap way to find out how adjacent games are to what you do. Free, two hours, and the venue is worth seeing on its own terms.

One thing to know: the event runs in Italian. A debate is the hardest listening there is, so sit near the front.

Business Networking (with Matching App) and Talks for Entrepreneurs — Randstad Box, Thu 10 Sep, 18:00–22:00, free, Connessioni Pro. The organisers' starting position is that ordinary networking produces too much noise, so the evening is structured: you fill in a short profile when you register and the matching runs from that. Four hours, with talks alongside the introductions.

Last week, briefly

The recap window was busier than the week ahead. The Friday pair ran again on 28 August — the Milan Tech Mixer at Vinyl Pub and MUD Events' Business Networking at WeWork Via Meravigli. TDD Milano's free Open Coding Night filled WAO Isola on 31 August, and on 3 September Tech Startups on the Terrace took the Porta Romana terrace at Open by Joivy.

Neither Friday regular is on our listings for 4 September. That may be their calendar or it may be our sourcing, and we would rather name what we do not know than imply the city went dark.

Who should go where

• Builders and designers — Friday. It is the only room in the window with actual content in it, and games is the discipline where design, engineering and audience get argued in the same sentence.
• Founders — Thursday 10th if you want introductions without doing the approach work yourself. Otherwise save the evening for the fortnight that follows.
• Investors — nothing this week is built for dealflow and we will not invent a reason. Look at 25 September: Assolombarda runs a free morning on how banks actually finance startups.
• Sales and marketing — Thursday, or skip the week. Friday's debate is a specialist audience.

Why are there only two events in Milan this week?

Two reasons. The first full week of September is a genuine lull here — the autumn programmes mostly start from the 11th onwards. And Milan is one of our newer cities, so our coverage is still incomplete. If you run something we missed, that is a gap we can close in a day.

Do I still need to register for a free event?

Yes. Both listings go through their organiser's registration page, and a free ticket is how capacity gets managed. Sort it before you leave the house.

This is the part that changes the picture. TBH Forum 2026 takes the Teatro Lirico Giorgio Gaber on 11 September. Open Coding Night is back at WAO Isola on Monday 14 September, free. The 16th does something Milan has not managed all summer and puts two technical meetups on one night — Italian C++ Milano at Randstad Box and Scrum Agile Milano's "Murder in the Sprint" at BIP, both free.
