Milan tech events this week: the community tier comes back (9-15 October 2026)
Milan tech events 9-15 Oct: fifteen on the city page, thirteen free.
A correction before anything else: last Friday we told you DevFest Milano 2026 would land on Friday 9 October. It lands on Saturday the 10th. That one is ours, not the organiser's, and it is worth getting right because it is the best thing on the Milan calendar this week.
The rest of the week is the better story. Our last Milan edition carried seven tech events, six of them with a badge, and we wrote that the community tier here barely existed. This week there are fifteen and seven are community-run. Thirteen of the fifteen are free. Milan is still young with us, so fifteen is a curated read rather than the whole city - but it is the first week where the networking events in Milan on our page look like a scene rather than a conference schedule.
The Big One: DevFest Milano 2026
Sat 10 Oct, 09:00 - DevFest Milano 2026, Randstad Box. Free. Milan's flagship developer community conference, run jointly by GDG Cloud Milano and GDG Milano. The 2026 theme is "from generative AI to agents", organised around four pillars, and the room is mixed Italian and English. A Saturday is a real ask, and still the right call: it is the one day this week where you can go deep on agent tooling and then meet the people who maintain it, for nothing.

The week, day by day
Friday 9 October. Two evenings, both free, both at 18:00. Tech Startups on the Terrace - Open by Joivy, Milan #12 is a rooftop with no programme and no speakers - the format is the terrace and whoever turns up, and our row marks the room English. Out at MIND, physicist and science communicator Massimo Temporelli closes the opening day of CultureLink Festival 2026 in the Cascina Triulza auditorium, in Italian.
Saturday 10 October. DevFest, then Community Saturday at WeMake from 15:00, free - an open afternoon at Milan's makerspace with the workshops unlocked, machines to try and projects in progress to look at. If you have been meaning to see the inside of a fablab, this is the low-commitment version.
Monday 12 October, 19:00. Open Coding Night at WAO Isola, free. TDD Milano's fortnightly evening: pair and mob programming on katas and real code, test-driven development as the shared discipline, no slides. Bring a laptop.
Tuesday 13 October is the pile-up - five events, four of them free. ServerlessDays Milano 2026 at WAO Romolo C30 is the one to book: Italy's serverless conference, part of the global series and in Milan since 2018, non-profit and community-run, EUR 49. In the institutional lane, It's all CIO & Technology 2026 fills the NH Milano Congress Centre with CIOs and senior IT decision-makers, free; the Politecnico's observatory asks Who Will Lead the New Platform Economy? at Bovisa from 09:30 with market data on Italy against Europe and the US; and Designtech runs Additive Innovation Day at its CoFactory on where industrial 3D printing is already competitive. The evening option is Flexx Club's KEY MATCHING at 19:00, EUR 12.50, with pairings prepared in advance from professional profiles.
Wednesday 14 October, 18:30. Kong x Credemtel Meetup: Building Secure AI Systems in Milan, Talent Garden Isola, free, in English. Kong with its own customer on API gateways, governance and what actually breaks once agents hit production traffic - a vendor in the room, but talking about failure rather than features. Also that evening, Scrum Agile Milano meets online for Scratching Beneath the Surface, on the structures under a struggling team.

Thursday 15 October. Three, all free. SMART LAND NOW MEETINGS 2026 at The Hive - Stella33 runs roundtables between public bodies and companies on digital public services and regeneration. WSO2 Oxygenate Italy 2026 at Lynx Group covers open ecosystems, AI governance, APIs, identity and the Model Context Protocol. And at 18:30 at Fondazione Feltrinelli, Flatmates ask Nicchie vs Mainstream: si puo scalare una nicchia senza tradirla?.
Who should go where
Sales and marketing. Tuesday at the NH Congress Centre if you sell to Italian IT: a free room of CIOs is the cheapest buyer access of your month, and Thursday's WSO2 day is the same logic one layer down the stack. Skip KEY MATCHING unless prepared introductions are genuinely how you work.
Builders. Saturday at DevFest, Monday at Open Coding Night, Tuesday at ServerlessDays, Wednesday at Kong. Four rooms in five days, three of them free - this has not been true of Milan since we opened the city.
Founders. Friday's terrace is the one unstructured evening, and unstructured is the point. Beyond that, your week is thin: no pitch night, no demo day. If you are raising, use Tuesday's Politecnico session to sharpen the market story instead.
Investors. Nothing here is built for you, and we would rather say that than dress a conference up as dealflow.
Venue corner: WAO, twice
Two of this week's best technical rooms sit in WAO buildings on opposite sides of the city: Open Coding Night at WAO Isola on Monday, ServerlessDays at WAO Romolo C30 on Tuesday. Isola is the easy one after work; Romolo is further south, so check your route for a 09:00 start. Worth knowing which one you booked.
FAQ corner
Are these events really free?
Thirteen of the fifteen are, and both paid ones publish real figures - EUR 49 for ServerlessDays, EUR 12.50 for KEY MATCHING. That is unusual: our software fills in "free" when an organiser publishes no price, which is why we spent recent weeks flagging Milan listings we could not stand behind. Not this week.
Does registering guarantee a seat?
No, and it is the trap we see most across our cities. Some organisers gate registration behind approval, and a confirmation email is not always a seat. For a free conference in a fixed venue - DevFest at Randstad Box being the obvious one - register early and arrive early.
Worth knowing
- DevFest is Saturday 10 October, not Friday the 9th. Our error last week, corrected here.
- A clean week, which is worth stating. Every one of the fifteen rows carries a venue, and no paid event arrives without a price. After recent weeks of Milan listings with blank addresses and unquotable costs, that is new.
- One of the fifteen is online and says so: Scratching Beneath the Surface. The venue field reads "Online" rather than sitting empty.
- Cascina Triulza is at MIND, not in town. Friday's Temporelli talk is out at the innovation district, so check the journey before you commit to an 18:00 start.
- An "available" label still proves nothing. Sold out, waitlist and invite-only all normalise back to available when we ingest them. Check the organiser's page.
What we are still missing
Fifteen events is twice last week and still not Milan. Everything we hold is on the Milan listings page. The gap now is the money end: no pitch night, no demo day, no investor evening reached us, in a city that runs on finance and design. If you organise one - or anything else here - send it over. Early readers decide what this coverage grows into.
