Rome tech events this week: the conference city, and it suits it (2–8 October 2026)
Rome tech events 2–8 Oct: a Friday double of AWS Community Day Italy and RomHack Camp, then Tor Vergata's research day and a data-centre symposium.
Rome does not currently have a meetup scene. Tech Startup Roma, RomaJS, GDG Roma Città and PyData Roma Capitale have all been quiet three weeks running, and that is the city rather than a gap in our sourcing. What Rome has instead is conferences, universities and ministries, and this week that produces something a mixer calendar never could: a hacker camp in an actual campsite, a national cloud community day, a university accounting for its research money, a museum arguing about accessibility. Seven tech events in Rome between Friday and Thursday, not one of them a generic networking evening.
Rome is the newest and thinnest calendar we run, and we'd rather cover seven events properly than pretend at thirty. So: seven, by who you are.
The big one is a double, and it's today
Fri 2 Oct, 09:00 — AWS Community Day Italy 2026, Villa Eur Parco dei Pini. Free. The national AWS Community Day, built by twelve Italian user groups and hosted in Rome this year. Community-organised rather than vendor-run, which historically produces better talks: migrations described as they actually went, and serverless architecture from people who get paged about it.

Fri 2 Oct, 09:00 — RomHack Camp 2026, Flaminio Village. Paid. Italy's hacker camp, second edition: three days of self-organised talks, workshops and community villages in an open-air campsite on the Flaminia, a hardware badge, roughly 600 people across seventeen communities. The From Dusk Till Dawn CTF finals run overnight on the 2nd. The least Roman-looking event in Rome, and the one still being discussed in November.
You can't do both. Cloud and serverless: Villa Eur. Security, hardware and a sleeping bag: the Flaminia.
Last week, briefly
The busy week was the one just gone: Banca d'Italia's digital euro session, Tech Drinks @Almaviva on Tuesday, IFIB 2026 closing at WeGil. One spills into today: the Euro-Mediterranean Water Forum 2026 at La Nuvola runs to 2 October, so Friday is its last day. It's paid, and the €200 on our page is an early-bird rate whose window closed on 31 July and was never republished — so "paid, ask the current rate".
The week ahead, by who you are
If you build physical things. Test&Measurement Days - Rome, Tue 6 Oct, 09:00, Centro Congressi Cavour, free. Test and measurement instrumentation a short walk from Termini: oscilloscopes, RF, power, automated test, hardware on the tables rather than slides about it. Narrow, but Rome's space and defence base makes it less niche here than elsewhere.
If you're a founder. Build Your Strategy workshop - for startups in the AI era, Mon 5 Oct, 09:30, Talent Garden Ostiense. Paid, no price published. A working day, not a lecture: positioning, and what differentiates you once a model can replicate the obvious version of your product. Rome is the earliest-stage city we cover, and this is its only founder-facing room this week.
If you work in research or with the public sector. Rome's home turf, and it has two rooms. PNRR-PNC: Tor Vergata Innovation Day, Wed 7 Oct, 09:00, Tor Vergata's Engineering campus, free — the closing event for the university's PNRR and PNC programmes: a plenary with the institutions and programme leads, then the Discovery Hall opening. A university saying out loud what the national research money built. Then Culture for everyone: AI in the service of accessibility, Thu 8 Oct, 09:00, MACRO, free — automatic description, captioning, adaptive interfaces, museum journeys for visitors with sensory and cognitive disabilities. Heritage plus AI is something no other city we cover can do, and Fondazione Kainòn ETS treats it as engineering rather than decoration.

If you specify or finance infrastructure. Data Center Symposium 2026, Thu 8 Oct, 14:30, Parco dei Principi Grand Hotel & SPA, €107.92. Power, cooling, siting and the AI demand curve behind Italy's data-centre build-out. For people who specify or finance capacity, not who rent it.
If you're an investor. Your week is empty, and we'd rather say so than sell you a conference. Wednesday's Discovery Hall opening is the nearest thing to dealflow.
Organiser spotlight: Cyber Saiyan
Last Monday it was RomHack Training 2026 at the Polo Didattico Garbatella; this Friday it's the camp. Same non-profit, two formats, two weeks, no venue of its own, seventeen communities willing to build villages for it. Follow one Roman organiser: that one.
Worth knowing
The AWS group you'll search for is gone. `meetup.com/aws-user-group-rome` returns "Group not found"; the live entity is AWS User Group Roma. Register through the link on our page rather than hunting a Meetup group that 404s.
Two of this week's seven are paid with no figure, one deliberately: RomHack Camp publishes no readable price, and the workshop was sent as "paid" with the amount empty, because our API defaults a missing price to "free" and vague beats wrong. Read both as "paid, price on the organiser's page".
Rome's calendar genuinely thins out after 21 October, and again that's the city rather than our sourcing: past that date Eventbrite and Luma return effectively nothing here. Planning November? Plan it from the organisers.
Next week
DevFest Roma 2026 lands Saturday 10 October at Roma Tre, free — the biggest developer day of Rome's autumn. Cybertech Europe follows at La Nuvola on the 13th.
The full set sits on the Rome listings page. And a genuine ask, because here it makes the most difference: if you run something in Rome, or know a community gone quiet in public but still meeting, tell us. Seven is what we can see from outside.
