Rome tech events this week: a Friday pub and a Monday founders' room (21–27 Aug 2026)

Rome tech events, 21–27 Aug 2026: Friday's EUR 3 mixer at Treefolk's, then MUD's EUR 7 founders-and-investors room on Via Gallia on Monday night.

Rome is the earliest-stage city on anopenroom, and this week it does the thing that earliest-stage scenes are actually judged on: it keeps showing up. Two anchors, four days apart — a pub full of engineers on Friday, a founders-and-investors room on Monday. Small, yes. But the interesting part of tech events in Rome right now isn't the volume, it's the fact that the same two rooms have carried the whole summer without a break.

Last week, briefly

The pattern held through Ferragosto week too. The Rome Tech Mixer & Social ran at Treefolk's on Friday 14 August, and MUD's Rome Business Networking followed on Monday 17 August on Via Gallia — the one Rome event we featured that week. Neither took the holiday off. What that means for the week ahead is simple: both slots are proven, not provisional, and the Monday room has now landed in the same spot four days into the working week for long enough to be a fixture rather than an experiment.

Friday 21 August — the pub

Rome Tech Mixer & Social (Tech / AI / Data / IT) at Treefolk's Public House (Fri 21 Aug, 20:30, EUR 3, Rome Tech Social) is the relaxed end of the week. It gathers developers, data engineers, AI practitioners, IT professionals, digital nomads and anyone else working in tech in the city — no talks, no pitches, no agenda beyond a drink and a conversation. Three euros is roughly the cost of that drink, which is the point: it's built as a habit, not an occasion. If you're new to Rome, or newly back from wherever August took you, this is the low-stakes way to find out who is still here.

Monday 24 August — the founders' room

Rome Business Networking - Startups, Investors & Tech on Via Gallia (Mon 24 Aug, 21:00, EUR 7, MUD Events) is a different proposition entirely. It's an informal international networking evening built to connect early-stage founders, angel investors and tech professionals — no pitches from a stage, no programme, just an unstructured room designed so that introductions actually happen. A 21:00 start on a Monday is unapologetically Roman, and it filters the crowd: the people who come out for this on a Monday night in late August are the ones working on something.

Hidden gem: the Monday room, and why it matters

Our pick of the week is the Monday one, and not because it's bigger — it isn't. It's because a founders-and-investors room, in Rome, on a Monday night, in the last full week of August, is a genuinely odd thing to exist at all. Most cities in our network don't have one. Rome does, and it has had one every week while the rest of the Italian calendar went dark.

That consistency is the actual story. MUD Events has run this series straight through the summer, and it is the single largest reason Rome's page is not empty right now. In a young scene, one organiser who refuses to skip a week is worth more than a dozen one-off conferences, because it gives everyone a reliable place to be found. If you go to one thing in Rome this month, make it this — and go with a specific ask rather than a general hello. Monday-night crowds are small enough that a clear question travels around the room.

FAQ corner

Are these events run in Italian or in English?

They differ, and it's worth knowing before you walk in. The Friday mixer at Treefolk's is listed as mixed — expect both languages in play across the room, so either works. MUD's Monday networking on Via Gallia is listed as running in English, in keeping with its international framing. Neither expects fluency in the other language.

Do I need a ticket in advance?

Both are paid — EUR 3 for the Friday mixer, EUR 7 for the Monday room — so you're buying a ticket rather than walking in free. Sort it through the event page ahead of time rather than assuming you can handle it at the door, particularly for the Monday session, where the whole thing runs at a scale where the organiser is counting heads.

Across the network

Worth a note for anyone with a flexible Thursday: Venture Café Edinburgh returns on Thursday 27 August with its "High Risk, High Reward" gathering — the format that runs weekly in one of our tightest, most consistent cities, and a useful contrast if you want to see what Rome's calendar could look like in a few years. Details on our Edinburgh page.

Coming up

Both anchors continue past this window. The Rome Tech Mixer & Social runs again on 28 August and 4 September, and MUD's Rome Business Networking returns on 31 August. So the pattern doesn't break on the way into September — it just gets company as the rest of the city's meetups come back.

Rome is the newest scene we cover, and a two-event week in August is honest rather than complete. If you run or attend something here that we haven't found — a meetup, a research seminar, a founder night — send it our way. Early readers shape what this guide becomes, and Rome's is still very much being written. See you at Treefolk's, or on Via Gallia.
