About this event

How do you regulate a ship with no crew? Safeguard Engineering's Jess Morris and Ian Groom MBE walk through current and emerging regulation, legislation and guidance for remotely controlled and autonomous maritime systems, and propose a way to assure their safety without slowing iterative development. Jess Morris is a Graduate Safety Engineer working on large uncrewed surface vessels and subsea programmes; Ian Groom is a former Defence Maritime Regulator. Part of the IMarEST and RINA Western Joint Branch lecture series, 18:15 to 20:30 aboard MV Balmoral, Wapping Road. Free. Why go: autonomy regulation from someone who has sat on the regulator's side, delivered on a working ship in the harbour. Best for robotics, autonomy and defence-tech engineers and founders who will one day have to make a safety case.
