About this event

Biotech Soc's first Founders Event puts four people actually building AI-for-biology companies and pipelines in front of a student and early-founder audience in Appleton Tower Lecture Theatre 3. The line-up is unusually operational for a university evening. Eugene Shrimpton-Phoenix works on an AI pipeline that generates de novo protein binders for fluorescence microscopy. Jack Scannell is CEO of Etheros Pharmaceuticals, developing small-molecule enzyme mimetics for neuroprotection and healthspan. Eva Steele co-founded Amytis, a research workspace tool for scientific workflows. Elijah Downs won the Edinburgh Innovations Summer Startup three-minute pitch with TechTwin, wearable biometric performance tech for athletes. Two hours, 18:00 to 20:00, free, with discussion time built in. Why go: it is the rare Edinburgh room where protein design, drug discovery and research tooling founders are on the same bill rather than on separate academic panels. Best for life-science researchers thinking about spinning out, and for AI engineers curious where biology actually pays.
