An online talk from the Edinburgh-based Future of Work in Scotland group. Stephen E. Morris, author of Leaders, Believers and Expert Deceivers, returns to argue that the usual explanations for failed change programmes — the wrong framework, the wrong plan, resistant people — miss the actual cause.
His case rests on the hidden contexts inside organisations, which he calls organisational dark matter: the forces that drain budgets, stall progress and erode loyalty without ever appearing in a plan. The session covers why detailed plans are blind to them, why a physics metaphor beats the usual iceberg one, and how to surface hidden contexts through better questions.
