30 Years of KDE

KDE turned 30 on 14 October 2026, and Barcelona Free Software is marking it with a talk and a party at AKASHA Hub in Sant Martí. Albert Astals Cid, a long-standing KDE contributor and one of the project's historical community members, walks through three decades of the desktop: the history, the anecdotes, and what thirty years of volunteer-built software teaches you about keeping a project alive. The talk starts at 19:00 and is given in Catalan. Pizza and drinks afterwards, paid for by KDE Espana. Free, no ticket, 24 people signed up so far. KDE Espana is also offering 30th-anniversary Konqui amigurumis for a 30 euro donation if you email ahead to reserve one. Why go: Barcelona's free-software scene rarely gets a birthday this big, and Astals Cid is the right person to tell the story from the inside. Best for open-source contributors, Linux and Qt developers, and anyone who grew up on KDE.
