About this event

A one-hour online presentation by Dr Stephanie Diepeveen (King's College London) in the Digital Governance Research Colloquium, hosted by the Centre for Digital Governance at the Hertie School. The question is who exercises power over whom with AI — a concern that runs from the concentration of power among Big Tech and states able to harness AI for rule, through to AI systems as political agents in their own right. Diepeveen approaches it through an empirical study of Kenya's AI-enabled smart-city infrastructure, which is deeply entwined with Huawei across its technological layers, from fibre optic cable to CCTV to real-time data integration and analysis.
